Copenhagen Vacation, Tour & Travel Package

  • Copenhagen
  • The Marble Church
  • The Little Mermaid - the most photographed site on all Denmark vacations.
  • Nyhavn Canal

Copenhagen, Denmark’s vibrant and lively capital is a fairly compact city allowing you to reach many of the major highlights on foot. It has a strong character which is reflected in its architecture, crisscrossing canals and harbour. The city is known for the excellent shopping, culture and nightlife it offers visitors on Copenhagen vacations.

Things to do in Copenhagen

Perhaps the best-known landmark is the iconic Little Mermaid, a bronze and granite statue displayed in the middle of the harbour. Also special is the Stroget, one of Europe’s longest pedestrian streets with its many shops, stores, restaurants and cafes. Tivoli Gardens is a very popular amusement park with many attractions for all ages. One can enjoy concerts and also dine here in the numerous restaurants. Nyhavn is one of Copenhagen’s major canals with its beautiful old houses but is best known for its many quayside open-air restaurants and bars, very popular with locals and visitors alike on Copenhagen vacations.

Copenhagen Museums

Two major cultural venues are the National Museum with its exhibits ranging from the Stone Age, the Viking Era, and the Middle Ages to Modern Times and the National Gallery of Denmark with the country’s largest collection of Danish and international art. Another centre for art is the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, a museum featuring both traditional and modern art. Not far outside the city is the interesting Open Air Museum giving a view of country life from 1650 to 1940, consisting of 50 farms, mills and houses.

Historical Landmarks

The impressive Amalienborg Palace, built in the 1700s, is the home of the Royal Family. Something to watch is the Changing of the Guard which marches from Rosenborg Castle to Amalienborg Castle every day. Majestic Rosenborg Castle, built in the 17th Century, is the former home of Danish Kings. It houses Crown Jewels and has interesting tapestries and an excellent collection of Venetian glass. No visit to Copenhagen on a Denmark vacation would be complete without visiting Kronborg Castle, a half hour or so outside the city, the mysterious and atmospheric castle featured in Shakespeare’s Hamlet.

Freetown Christiania

An unusual part of Copenhagen is Freetown Christiania, a green and car-free district, originally taken over by hippies in 1971. It is now an alternative neighbourhood with its own laws and rules, a society within a society and features numerous workshops and art galleries.
