Nashville Tours, Vacations, Trips & Travel Packages
Nashville is the ultimate pilgrimage for country music fans; since the 1920’s the city has been attracting musicians who have taken the country genre from hillbilly to the slick Nashville sound. In 1925 this river port became known for its live-music radio program Barn Dance later nicknamed the Grand Ole Opry. Its popularity soared and the city proclaimed itself as “the country music capital of the world”. The city sits on a rise beside the Cumberland River with its many historic, musical and culinary attractions.
Must-see museums: Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum; the Johnny Cash Museum, home to the artist’s most comprehensive memorabilia in the world. The Patsy Cline Museum, upstairs, celebrates the life and music of this country music legend. The Ryman Auditorium, the 1890s soaring brick tabernacle or the so-called “Mother Church of Country Music” has hosted a laundry list of 20th-century performers from Elvis Presley to Bob Dylan.
The Historic District was the centre of the cotton trade when most of its Victorian warehouses were built. Today it is alive with live music, good restaurants, old bars and a vibrant club scene with Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge the grandma of all honky-tonks. Printers Alley is a narrow cobble-stoned lane known for its nightlife since the 1940s. Bourbon bars, pubs and burlesque await at this must-visit nightlife destination. Riverfront Park, an urban green space close to downtown offers a respite and gorgeous views of the river and this exciting city.
