Pittsburgh Tours, Vacations & Travel Packages

  • Pittsburgh is known as “the Steel City” for its more than 300 steel-related businesses

A former industrial centre with modern flair, Pittsburgh is one of the most exciting cities on the east coast. “Steel City” is a hub of invention and creative spirits as the birthplace of the Big Mac, ketchup, emoticons, and the world’s first art museum. Pittsburgh’s cultural soul allowed it to transform and reimagine itself as many other cities in America’s Rust Belt faded, giving it a solid reputation as an artistic hub and home to the most bridges in the world (446 total, even more than Venice, Italy).

Culture runs through the city’s veins on each side of the Ohio River. The North Shore neighbourhood shares its popularity with the Andy Warhol Museum, Carnegie Science Centre, and the city’s professional baseball and football stadiums. Energy is always high in the area, from the intellectual enthusiasm of art aficionados to the buzzing sports bars on game day, clad in a sea of yellow and black.

As a strategic stop between Chicago and New York, many of America’s jazz legends played the music halls of Pittsburgh, fostering an incredibly rich culture for a city of its size. In 1920, Pittsburgh’s Hill District became known as “Little Harlem”, attracting black and white musicians alike to play together without the boundaries of segregation including the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, and more. Today, the Pittsburgh Jazz Festival brings the city to its feet every June and free-flowing jazz graces the ears of audiences year-round from various bars, lounges, and clubs.
