Death Valley Tours, Trips & Vacation Packages

  • Zabriskie Point is amongst the most popular stops in Death Valley

A land of extremes, Death Valley National Park is the hottest, driest, and lowest point in North America. While the desert would have been a death sentence back in the day, it is now a must-see destination for any road tripper, famous for its otherworldly colourful landscapes, mirage-like salt flats, and singing sand. Get lost in the dips of Zabriskie Point and Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes before admiring the hexagonal patterns of the Badwater Basin. The hike from Golden Canyon to Red Cathedral is a pilgrimage on its own, taking you through sculpted rocks that provided the faraway lands for Star Wars.

Ghost towns lurk in the desert plain, whose rustic buildings and stretches of dusty desert contain the spirits of former outlaws and gold miners passed on. Rhyolite was the largest town in the region, and now contains abandoned buildings, piles of scrap metal, and the off-beat sculptures of Goldwell Open Air Museum. Spend the night in Death Valley Junction at the Amargosa Opera House & Hotel if you dare, a former hotel and performing arts centre keeping artistic traditions in the desert alive.

For a taste of the wild west, Stop in Lone Pine to explore the Museum of Western Film History. You’ll want to bring snacks as dining options in Death Valley are sparse, but you can find restaurants clustered near Stovepipe Wells, Panamint Springs, and Furnace Creek, the latter providing lush resorts and hot springs that contrast against its barren surroundings.
