Volga River Cruise Ship FAQs

How often do the Cruises Operate?

Cruises take place very week from May to September.

Is there sightseeing during the cruise?

Yes. The tours are escorted by English speaking guides and some of the places visited will be Kizhi Island, Mandrogui, and the Hermitage Museum.

What currency do I need on board the Russian Cruise?

You will need Russian Roubles (RUR), and you can even get them in your home country. Please enquire at your local post office or currency exchange agents. However, it is simple and convenient to change US dollars once you arrive in Russia there are currency exchange booths on nearly every street corner in St. Petersburg and Moscow. Other types of currency can only be changed in a bank. Traveller’s cheques can be changed, but often with difficulty. All major credit cards are generally accepted in Moscow and St. Petersburg, but not in the provinces. On board the cruise ship, MasterCard and Visa are generally accepted (10% commission on cash withdrawals).

Will I require visas for my journey?

Advice on up to date requirements should be sought from the consulate office in your country of residence, or from your local travel agent.  At present, a Visa is required for both US and Canadian travelers. A visa must be obtained before entering Russia and can be acquired easily online. For general guidance:  Your passport must be valid for ten years and have at least six months remaining at the time of entry into your country of residence.

What do I take to wear on board the Russian Cruise?

The atmosphere on board is relaxed and dress code is casual and comfortable both onboard and ashore. Because the weather can be unpredictable, it’s best to bring layers, a sweater or light jacket for spring and summer. Rain can happen at any time for a collapsible umbrella is highly recommended. You will be sturdy, comfortable walking shoes for shore excursions. There are no formal nights onboard, but for the Captain’s Farewell Dinner and going to the Ballet or Opera you may want to bring “dressy casual” wear.

How many people are on board?

Depending on which Cruise ship you choose, the number of passengers on board can from 250 to 290 people or more.

Are there Single Cabins?

Yes. We offer several types of cabin rooms that best suit your needs ie: Singles, Twins, Triples, Quads, Junior Suites and Suites.

How far in advance should we book?

This is a popular cruise, so the earlier the better!

Do I have to leave tips?

Many cruise passengers do leave tips to show appreciation for a job well done and this is certainly acceptable. Such gestures are voluntary and at your sole discretion. If you really enjoyed your cruise and liked the service onboard we recommend leaving a tip.

Do we need a pre and post night?

It is recommended that your book a pre and post night in either St. Petersburg or Moscow to coordinate with your international flight.
