Bangkok / Chiang Mai Connector
3 days
Instead of flying, travel overland from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and see the UNESCO World Heritage sites of ancient Thailand. Ayuthaya is the former capital of Siam from 1350 to 1767. The city was almost destroyed after an invasion by the Burmese, but today still remains the ruins of the once so impressive temples and palaces of its glorious past. Sukhothai is one of Asia's most important historic sites and was the first capital of the Thai Kingdom in the 13th century.
Day 1. Bangkok/Ayuthaya/Phitsanulok.
Depart by air-conditioned mini coach to the ancient Thai capital of Ayuthaya and visit the impressive ruins and famous temples. In Saraburi, see the Phra Buddha (Footprint of Lord Buddha), followed by lunch at a local restaurant in Lopburi. Visit the Khmer Temples before arriving in Phitsanulok. (LD)
Day 2. Phitsanulok/Sukhothai/Lampang.
Visit Wat Maha Dhat, Phitsanulok's famous shrine, then proceed to Sukhothai, the first capital of Siam. Old Sukhothai is one of Asia's most important historic sites and therefore under the supervision of UNESCO. Visit the historical park and Sri Satchanalai, the northern outpost town of Sukhothai. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit some more interesting temples before traveling to Lampang. (BLD)
Day 3. Lampang/Chiang Mai.
Explore the famous temples of Lampang before continuing to Lampoon. Here you will visit the temple Wat Haripoonchai, which contains world's largest bronze gong. Lunch at a local restaurant and then continue to Chiang Mai. (BL)
