The best way to experience the beautiful southern beaches of Thailand is to island hop! This travel idea connects three unique islands: Phuket, Thailand's largest island known as the “pearl of the Andaman,” Phi Phi, home to colourful marine life and vivid turquoise waters, and Krabi, with its dramatic limestone karsts, popular with rock climbers and honeymooners. Select your preferred level of accommodation and spend 10 days in paradise - with all transfers and ferries arranged in between. If variety is the spice of life, then this island-hopping itinerary is the perfect recipe to spice it up!
Only 45 minutes away from Phuket by boat, the Phi Phi Islands are a paradise with white sand beaches being lapped by a green blue sea. There are 6 islands of which only two are of interest, namely Phi Phi Don which is the largest and Phi Phi Lei, the island on which the movie, “The Beach’ was made in 2000.
As you approach the islands by boat, they suddenly rise up out of the sea and you are aware of sheer towering cliffs after which you then are confronted with beach-fronted jungle. The islands are much quieter and more laid back than resorts such as Phuket. For example, the best way to get around is either on foot or by long-tailed boat. Because of the abundance of coral and marine life, it’s no wonder scuba diving and snorkeling are extremely popular as are kayaking and other watersports.
Krabi is situated on the west coast of southern Thailand approximately one hour’s drive from Phuket. It is a fast evolving resort area now with its own airport. The most popular beach is Ao Nang which is also where most of the action is. It has a good range of accommodation, restaurants, bars and shops. Apart from the usual pastimes related to the beach, it offers great opportunities for snorkeling, kayaking and sailing. For scuba divers, there are many companies which provide trips to nearby diving sites.
