FIRST-CLASS | TAILOR-MADE: Explore cosmopolitan Melbourne and the island of Tasmania which has much to offer. Drive through Strahan then the Cradle Mountains, famous for alpine scenery, to Hobart stopping at Launceston, Freycinet and Port Arthur.

Travel ‘Downunder’ and mean it on this 12-day trip to Australia’s southernmost states. Spend three magical nights in Melbourne before going on to explore the wild beauty of Tasmania, Australia’s island state.

Arrive in Melbourne and take an easy first day to shake off the jetlag. Walk along the Yarra River, explore the National Gallery of Victoria or Federation Square, or take in the city view from Birrarung Marr, pondering the area’s indigenous heritage with fantastic skyline views. You can also opt for a guided tour of the city’s laneways and world-famous street art. Your second full day takes you to Phillip Island to see the nightly Little Penguin Parade, with stops to see Australian native animals and the surfers of Woolamai Surf Beach. You then have one full day at leisure to explore Melbourne’s neighbourhoods, or embark on a day trip along the Great Ocean Road or to the wineries of the Yarra Valley.

Ready for your round-trip tour of Tassie? Land in Hobart and collect your rental vehicle. If there’s time, squeeze in a visit to the cheeky Museum of Old and New Art, or take in the awesome view from Mount Wellington. The next day, set out for Strahan a fishing town on Tasmania’s West Coast. Loop around to Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, with two nights to explore this incredible wilderness. Hiking whichever trail suits your interest and fitness level, keep your eyes peeled for Aussie natives like wild echidnas and wombats, and maybe take in the twilight feeding frenzy at Devils@Cradle.

Relax for two nights in the quiet, appealing town of Launceston, where history and food come together. Tasmania’s second city sits on the doorstep of fantastic wineries, dairy farms, and more. Drive on to Freycinet National Park for your date with photogenic Wineglass Bay. Your next stop is Port Arthur, a former brutal penal colony transformed into one of Australia’s most fascinating historic attractions. Return to Hobart for your flight home, or stay an extra couple of days to experience its impressive art and food scene, or the excitements of the Salamanca Markets.
