Nepal is a land locked country sandwiched between India and China and divided into three geographic areas – the Himalayas (above 4000 feet/1230 metres), the Hill Region (between 1000/ and 4000 feet/300 and 1230 metres) and the Central Plains.

Capturing the attractions of Nepal is not simple as, although the first impression may be a kingdom dominated by the Himalayan Mountains, it offers glimpses of Buddhist and Hindu cultures through architecture, customs and the people. In brief, it is a deeply religious and cultural country with spectacular scenery.

The capital, Kathmandu will make you feel like you have stepped back in time. Divided into three areas in the Kathmandu Valley, Kathmandu itself has as its centerpiece, Durbar Square with its medieval atmosphere, the former residence of the Nepali royal family with the Royal Palace in the heart of the square surrounded by many interesting temples. Nearby Patan, across the river, has a wealth of Buddhist and Hindu temples where one can view wonderful carvings.

Further away is Bhaktapur known for its woodcarvings, pottery and cloth weaving.
Looking to the mountains, Nepal offers the very best in trekking mainly from Pokhara to the west of Kathmandu. Let’s discount climbing Mount Everest! For the less ambitious, it’s possible to trek to Everest Base Camp. However, this takes almost 3 weeks there and back. Shorter and less strenuous treks are numerous and well worth the effort. Pokhara itself is a wonderful resort-like town on beautiful Phewa Lake surrounded by monkey-filled verdant forests.

Royal Chitwan National Park is where one can undertake a jungle safari viewing the one-horned rhino, the Royal Bengal tiger and other species of animals.

As climbing Mount Everest is for the very few, here is another way to get to the top. The one hour flight seeing tour from Kathmandu not only gives a bird’s eye view of Everest but also of many other breathtaking snow-capped mountain peaks.

To experience Nepal, home to the highest mountain in the world, the deepest gorge, abundant rivers, temples, palaces and wildlife areas, book one of Goway's Nepal tours today.
