Social Conventions
The urban areas and culture of Zimbabwe have been influenced by Western styles and trends, however, rural areas have remained traditional and old beliefs and values are still very much alive. Shaking hands is the most common form of greeting in Zimbabwe. It is important to remember that an open hand is a political symbol of the main oppression party in Zimbabwe, the Movement for Democratic Change, and as such, a wave of the hand may be interpreted as a provocative gesture. Visitors should avoid commenting on President Mugabe as insults are considered an offence. Certain areas including government and military establishments have rules regarding photography; permits can be granted by government offices.
Language
The official language of Zimbabwe is English, however, Shona and Sindebele dialects are also spoken.
Religion
Christianity is the most followed religion in Zimbabwe. Ancestral worship is the next most-followed religion, however, there are also Muslim, Hindu and Jewish minorities.
