Kinabalu National Park Tours & Vacation Packages

  • Misty mountain forest of Mount Kinabalu are a popular inclusion on many Malaysia tours.
  • St Johns peak at Mount Kinabalu Borneo

When on Malaysia vacations, you may want to visit Kinabalu National Park, established in 1964 and one of Malaysia’s first national parks.
Located on the west coast of Sabah, in Malaysian Borneo, the park spans an area of 754 sq. km surrounding Mount Kinabalu, Borneo’s highest mountain, sitting at 4095 metres above sea level.

Listed as Malaysia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kinabalu National Park features 4500 species of fauna and flora, ranging from rich lowland dipterocarp forest through the montane oak, rhododendron, to the conifer forests of the middle altitudes leading to alpine meadows and stunted, windswept bushes of the summit.

Mount Kinabalu is known to be one of the most accessible mountains in the world. Low’s Peak, Mount Kinabalu’s highest peak, was named after British colonial administrator and naturalist, Hugh Low, who led an expedition to the region in 1895 and was recorded to be the first to reach the peak. Although the two-day climb to the peak requires no special equipment, climbers must be accompanied by a guide, and include an overnight stay in Laban Rata, located 3,273m above sea level. The next morning, after reaching the top of the peak, climbers are offered magnificent views of the sunrise amidst lush greenery, something to behold on a Malaysia tour.

The headquarters of Kinabalu National Park is located 88kms from the city of Kota Kinabalu, and offers accommodation in form of chalets and lodges around the park.

With some of the richest and most important biological sites in the world, Kinabalu National Park is one of Malaysia’s most popular tourist destinations.
