Nevada Vacations, Trips, Tours & Travel Packages

  • Red Rock Canyon, Nevada

For many travellers, Nevada means Las Vegas, and in some ways, that’s fair. There’s nowhere on Earth like the world’s entertainment capital. Don’t make the mistake however of thinking it’s the only thing to see and do in Nevada. When you’ve had your fill of all that glitz, gaming, and glamour, head out to explore one of America’s most beautiful and diverse states for exploring the outdoors.

Several of Nevada’s standout natural features can be reached on a day trip from Las Vegas. The Valley of Fire is a hiker’s dream, filled with dramatic red rocks and slot canyons perfect for exploration. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is another great hiking spot right outside Las Vegas, offering the perfect chance to appreciate the beauty of the desert in between exploring mega-casinos. If forest and mountain hiking is more your style, Mount Charleston offers a picturesque challenge. You’re also in a prime position on a Las Vegas vacation to dip into California and see Death Valley, or Arizona, to visit the Western Rim of the Grand Canyon.

The Lake Mead Recreational Area offers almost any outdoor activity you care to try, from boating to hiking, to lazing on the beach. Hikers love the Historic Railroad Trail, which follows the former railway bed through disused tunnels for an authentic taste of the Old West. Also worth the trip is Hoover Dam, the 1931 engineering feat that today provides power to 1.3 million people across California, Nevada, and Arizona.

Visit Lake Tahoe, the shimmering freshwater lake that mirrors the dramatic Sierra Nevada Mountains. Underappreciated Northern Nevada offers its own attractions. In Reno, the self-styled “Biggest Little City in the World,” keep an eye on its impressive list of annual competitions and festivals, particularly if cars or racing (in a variety of vehicles, ground or air) are your passion. Northern Nevada also holds the distinction of hosting the annual Burning Man event in the Black Rock Desert three hours north of Reno. Held in late August or early September, be sure to prepare for desert heat if you plan to attend.

For a more in-depth view of the beauty and variety of America’s west, extend your trip through Nevada for an unforgettable taste of the West.
