Take in the wonders of the Cape region of South Africa, from the mother city of Cape Town and winelands, along the wonders of the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth and ending with an African safari in a private game reserve.


This itinerary includes four nights in Cape Town, the mother city of Africa, considered as one of the most beautiful regions in the world.  It includes a full day Peninsula tour which covers all the highlights of the "Mother City", from the penguins at Boulders Beach to the Naval Town of Simons Town. A visit to Cape Town is certainly not complete without some South Africa wine, a full day winelands tour is also included which gives you a great overview of the area along with some great wine tastings.  This itinerary continues onto the Garden Route which is legendary for its wonderful natural beauty. The Garden Route runs between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, and this portion of the journey takes you across spectacular mountain passes and along a pristine coastline boasting some of South Africa's top resorts. You finish at Kariega private game lodge for 3 perfect nights to seek out the Big 5 in open 4x4 safari vehicles.

Day 2

Cape Town Peninsula Tour

Enjoy an early breakfast at the hotel before you are picked up for your full day tour of the Cape Peninsula Region. Travel along one of South Africa's most scenic routes. Travel past Sea Point and Camps Bay, past the famous beaches of Clifton and Llandudno towards Hout Bay (optional Seal Island Cruise, if time permitting). Drive along the Atlantic Seaboard and pass through Noordhoek and Scarborough. After lunch (own account), visit the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Experience one of the most famous views in the world, False Bay. Continue along the Indian Ocean coastline, where you visit the beautiful Boulders Beach to see the famous colony of Jackass Penguins. Afterwards, enjoy a short stop at the naval port of Simon's Town. Drop off will be at the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 3

Cape Winelands Tour

Historical, glorious Stellenbosch with its Cape Dutch architecture, is the warm and wonderful heart of the Cape Winelands. It is surrounded by stunning wine estates. It is truly the prettiest town, home to one of the country's prestigious universities, and great for exploring fine art galleries, the architecture, the history and the curious and quaint shops. Take a leisurely drive to get acquainted with the beauty of this world-renowned region, then get inducted into the wine-making process in a fascinating cellar tour and wine tasting. Drop off will be at the hotel in the late afternoon

Day 4

Cape Town at Leisure

Today you are at leisure to explore this wonderful city. Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world strategically situated at the south western tip of Africa. The city lies about 60km north of Cape Point, in a natural bowl, with the magnificent Table Mountain to the rear, and the vast Atlantic Ocean to the front. Cape Town, the Mother City, is historically, culturally and visually the most diverse, breathtakingly scenic and vibrant city in South Africa. There is so much to see and do. Explore the fabulous shops at the V&A waterfront or consider a trip to Robben Island or a trip up Table Mountain for dramatic views of the whole of the Cape Peninsula.

Day 5

Cape Town - Prince Albert

Travel through the picturesque Hex River Valley, surrounded by magnificent mountains. This area is considered to be the biggest producer of table grapes in South Africa. Continue to Matjiesfontein, where a part of the local hotel served as a convalescent hospital for British officers during the Anglo-Boer War. The entire village was declared a National Heritage Site in 1975 and is today a charming, beautifully restored throwback to the late Victorian era. The journey continues to Prince Albert, another delightful village, dating back to 1762. The town is known for its sun-ripened fresh and dried fruit, vineyards, olives and local cheese.

Day 6

Prince Albert - Oudtshoorn

After breakfast we have the opportunity to sample some of the locally produced olives before travelling through the spectacular Meiringspoort Pass and Waterfall, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with breathtaking rock formations and jaw-dropping beauty. The winding road takes us through the Swartberg Mountains to the quaint Little Karoo village of De Rust. Continue to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world and home to the spectacular limestone caverns of the Cango Caves. Enjoy a wine tasting at a local wine estate before setting off on a tour of the Cango Caves, one of the world's great natural wonders, sculpted by nature through the ages. In the afternoon, visit an Ostrich Farm for a guided tour.

Day 7

Oudtshoorn - Knysna

After breakfast, travel over the Outeniqua Pass to George, the sixth oldest town in South Africa, with many historical landmarks like the Slave Tree and King Edward VII Library building; said to be the best example of Edwardian architecture in the town. The tour travels via Wilderness, an attractive holiday resort to Knysna, known as the oyster box of South Africa, nestling on the banks of a beautiful lagoon in the heart of the Garden Route. Enjoy a lagoon cruise to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, where you can take a trailer ride to the top of the Western Head to enjoy panoramic views of the town and lagoon, returning for lunch under the milkwood trees. The afternoon is at leisure to further explore this charming town set around a natural harbour lagoon.

Day 8

Knysna - Port Elizabeth

After breakfast, you'll be transferred to Port Elizabeth. You'll head eastwards along the Tsitsikamma Forest to Port Elizabeth, known as the 'friendly city', with a wonderful climate. The tour ends on arrival in Port Elizabeth.

Kariega Game Reserve

Enjoy an early morning game drive. You are then at leisure to enjoy the many facilities that Kariega offers.

Nestled on the banks of the Bushman's River, this Lodge is unique in that it connects a Big-5 game reserve to the sea. In addition to game drives and walks, there are optional daily boat cruises which ferry guests through the quaint village of Kenton-on-sea to its picturesque and user friendly beaches. Kariega also offers a variety of well marked hiking trails on the predator-free, eastern River Lodge section of the reserve. This provides guests with the opportunity of walking safely amongst more than 25 species of game and birdlife. Alternatively, take one the canoes for a leisurely paddle down either the Kariega or the Bushman's rivers and watch in blissful silence as the river birds and animals go about their daily business. Fishing is also on offer.

This evening, experience another open vehicle safari before returning to the lodge for a great dinner.
