FIRST-CLASS | SPECIALITY GROUP: Embark on a 9-day group vacation across Kenya, where the animal kingdom roams free. The Swahili word Safari means journey – and there is no better journey to take than exploring the magical realm of Kenya, from the capital Naibori to Samburu National Reserve, Lake Nakuru, the equator, and the Great Plains.

Begin your group discovery of Kenya in its bustling modern capital, Nairobi, sitting on the doorstep of breathtaking and wildlife-rich Nairobi National Park. Visit orphaned elephants at Daphne Sheldrick’s Orphanage during their midday mud bath before your group lunch at the Karen Blixen Coffee Gardens, Kenya’s oldest landscaped gardens built around the historic farmhouse of the famed author of Out of Kenya. Come face-to-face with giraffes at the Giraffe Centre as you feed them from an elevated platform and get a kiss if you’re lucky! Pick up some beautiful souvenirs from the Kazuri Beads Factory and learn about the local women who handcraft the iconic painted ceramic beads.

Drive north past the imposing Mount Kenya to the rugged and remote Samburu National Reserve, stopping for a fresh farm-to-table lunch at the Trout Tree Restaurant. Enjoy two full days of game drives searching for incredible wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, leopards, herds of elephants, and several species of wildlife not found in other Kenya parks south of the equator, most notably the reticulated giraffe and Grévy's zebra. Embark on a camel ride through the ruggedly beautiful park at sunrise before continuing your group adventure at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

Descend the lush highlands into the Rift Valley’s staggering volcanic landscapes en route to Lake Nakuru, stopping along the equator to stand in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Marvel at the spectacular sight of millions of flamingos feeding along the shores of Lake Nakuru alongside warthogs, waterbucks, impalas, buffalos, Rothschild giraffes, elands, lions, leopards, black rhinos, and tens of thousands of other incredible birds.

Conclude your adventure in Masai Mara National Reserve, home to Africa's Great Plains and its highest concentration of birds and animals. Embark on more world-renowned game drives, searching for the Big Five—elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, and leopard—before your Masai Village visit.

Day 2

Nairobi

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. After breakfast you will visit Daphne Shedrick’s Orphanage.

Born from one family’s passion for Kenya and its wilderness, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust was established more than 40 years ago and is best known for its Orphans' Project, the first and most successful elephant orphan rescue and rehabilitation program in the world. The Sheldrick Trust is a pioneering conservation organization, dedicated to the protection of wildlife and the preservation of habitats in East Africa.

Lunch at Karen Blixen Coffee Gardens, followed by a visit to Giraffe Center.

The awe our tall friends elicits will lead you right here. An Educator will hand you some food pellets. Made of corn, wheat, grass and molasses, they are what you will feed them as you get up close. To get even closer, go up to the Feeding Platform. Don’t leave without getting a kiss! Attend a short lecture on the giraffe to learn how and why we are taking care of this endangered animal. Leave with a whole lot more about wildlife in Kenya.

Continue to Kazuri Beads. Kazuri, which means “small and beautiful” in Swahili, began in 1975 as a tiny workshop experimenting in hand crafted ceramic beads. Its founder started with two single motherhood women and soon discovered that there were many others in the villages around Nairobi, most of who were disadvantaged and were in great need of regular employment. Today Kazuri has grown tremendously and now has a large workforce of over 340 women skilled in the crafting of ceramic beads, strung into beautifully and artistically jewelry. The flair has taken us to a different dimension of making our own unique range of pottery which reflects the culture and wildlife of Kenya. Each piece, like our beads, is handmade and hand painted in rich colors.

Day 3

Enjoy a lunch break en-route at Trout Tree Restaurant. Afternoon game drive and dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4

Samburu National Reserve

Sunrise camel ride followed by morning and afternoon game drive in the Samburu National Reserve.

The Samburu National Reserve lies some 300km north of Nairobi and adjacent to the Buffalo Springs National Reserve separated only by the Uaso Nyiro River. Arid, rugged, but savagely beautiful the two reserves cover an area of about 300 square km. With less than 300 mm of rain a year the wildlife depends for its very existence on the river fed from the rich forests of the Aberdare Mountains, 300km away.

Several species of wildlife are found in Samburu, which are not found in other Kenya parks lying south of the equator. Among the most striking of these are the reticulated giraffe and Grevy's zebra. Lion, cheetah and leopard are all found here and elephant are plentiful. For the most part the reserve is hot by day but cool at night.

Day 6

Ol Pejeta Conservancy to Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast you will descend the lush highlands into the Rift Valley with its stunning volcanic landscapes. Transfer to Lake Nakuru with a stop en route at the Equator. Enjoy lunch at your lodge and an afternoon game drive.

Lake Nakuru offers one of the world's most spectacular wildlife sights, that of brilliant pink flamingos as far as the eye can see. When conditions are right, between one and two million lesser and greater flamingos feed around the shores of the shallow soda lake, together with tens of thousands of other birds. The best place to view the birds is from Baboon Cliff, where you can look out over the dazzling fringe of pink around the lake's shores. Lake Nakuru was declared a national park in 1961 and it now covers an area of some 200 km². Here you will also see warthog, waterbuck and large numbers of impala. Other slightly shyer residents include buffalo, Rothschild giraffe, eland, lion, leopard and black rhino. It goes without saying that this is a bird watchers paradise.

After the game drive proceed back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Accommodation: Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge

Day 7

Lake Nakuru National Park to Masai Mara National Reserve

Breakfast at the Camp. Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve offering wonderful scenery and plenty of game. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where the visitor may see animals in the same super-abundance as existed a century ago.

Enjoy lunch at the lodge and an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Set in the heart of Africa’s Great Plains, the Masai Mara boasts 1,672 square kilometres of unspoilt wilderness. It is home to the highest concentration of animals and birds anywhere on the continent. Throughout the year the Mara is a place of natural drama, a kaleidoscope of color and life. The famed “Big Five” – Elephant, Rhino, Lion, Buffalo and Leopard – roam the reserve, together with hundreds of others from the fastest animal on earth, the Cheetah, to one of the most secretive, the Bat-eared Fox. After the rains, when the first flush of grass turns the Mara’s golden savannah green, the mesmerizing wildlife spectacle anywhere takes place here: the Great Migration. This is the time when 1.5 million Wildebeest, accompanied by vast numbers of Zebra and Gazelles make the long and dangerous trek from drier lands in Tanzania, northwards to this corner of Kenya. For most of the century the Mara has drawn those searching for adventure and the thrill is still the same today with days spent face to face with nature at its most untouched and enthralling.
