Amazon River Cruise: Clipper Premium

Duration
3-6 Days
Prices From:
US$ 1,179

Spend 4 days cruising along the Amazon River on the 4 star Clipper Premium. Learn about local flora, visit a village and enjoy a fishing expedition to catch one of the many hundreds of species found in the river.

There are several ways to see the wonders of the Amazon: hotels, lodges and boat tours. Goway considers that the best way to see and enjoy nature, especially on the amazing waterways of the Amazon, is to be agile in this wonderful environment and to be always in the midst of the jungle, especially at dawn and dusk. That is on the River and that is on one of the many vessels Goway offers.

The Premium vessel (in house 4 star rating) is the perfect choice for those seeking a bit more common area space as well as a larger group environment.

WHEN TO VISIT THE BRAZILIAN AMAZON

The high season, with more tourists, are July-September and December-January. These periods are within the low water season (July-February), and have significant advantages for your Amazon tours: less rain, less mosquitoes, easier observation of aquatic life in lakes, better time for fishing or swimming.

But there are some disadvantages also: temperatures are higher (especially before December), some waterways are more clogged with vegetation, limiting access to wildlife zones; the forest life is less visible except for aquatic life in isolated lakes (the best period for viewing wild life, in Manaus region, is March - June; this is also a cooler period, and a nicer one for your Amazon tours: waterside plants such as acacias, morning glories, or cecropias, flourish at these months.

Some people prefer transitional periods (October and November; and May and June, in the region of Manaus), where you may have some advantages of the rainy and the dryer periods. But there aren't true rules on that issue. For most people, the more determinant factor is the rain. December to May period can have many rainy days, and that can spoil many planned Amazon tours.

Day 2

Amazon River

Set out in the early morning in the Janauaca Lake to begin exploring by canoe as the Amazon awakens. Keep your eyes peeled for exotic birds and the Pink River Dolphin. Return to the vessel for breakfast.

After your meal, take a walk in the forest to visit to the locals. The indigenous populations largely make livings from maintaining and farming manioc plantations, rubber, Brazil nut trees, wood and other naturally abundant resources. Later, you will have the opportunity to fish for Piranha, the omniverous freshwater fish that makes its home in South American rivers. While fishing, there is a good chance of spotting Hoatzins and large flocks of egerets.

After dinner, explore the forest in canoes observing the numerous nocturnal animals and admiring the millions of stars and constellations in the night sky. Looking down into the water, you can see the red eyes of the caiman reflecting the guide lights.

Disembark

After a last adventure into the forest to spot bird life, you will venture to the spot of the world famous giant water lilies in the Lago Janauary Ecological Park. Explore the flooded forest by canoe or on the catwalks, observing wildlife in the trees and in the water.

Return to the vessel for breakfast as the boat moves towards the "Meeting of the Waters". This is a unique spectacle where the sandy, cafe-au-lait colored waters of the Amazon River meet with the dark water of the Rio Negro. The river's waters run side by side for 6km before mixing.

Return to the Manaus port with views to the floating docks, sea food market, old custom house and the dome of the Opera house, arriving at 11:30 am.
