DELUXE | PRIVATE-GUIDED: Embark on this luxurious 7-day vacation across Panama and Colombia, pairing the gateway countries between Central and South America. Begin in dazzling and modern Panama City, where you'll explore the engineering marvel of the Panama Canal before exploring Panama City's historic centre on foot. Set off to discover Cartagena's Caribbean colonial charms, exploring historic landmarks during the day and enjoying the lively nightlife when the sun sets.

Begin your 7-day adventure with an immersive boat tour along the Panama Canal. Keep your eyes peeled for incredible local wildlife, including three-toed sloths sleeping in tree branches, ospreys hunting for peacocks from the sky, communities of snail kites, and keel-billed toucans before searching for white-faced capuchins, mantled howler monkeys, and more wildlife on the lake's rainforest-clad islands.

Discover the rest of Panama City on foot with a half-day walking tour across the city's UNESCO-listed historic centre, Casco Antiguo. Step back into the 1600s as you stroll through the district’s colonial houses, narrow avenues, and historic churches, including the famous golden altar at the Church of San Jose. Visit the Plaza de Francia, paying tribute to the French contributions to the Panama Canal, Los Bovedas, a monument once used against pirate attacks, and some of the city’s best museums, including the Museo del Canal and the Museo de la Mola.

Fly to Colombia’s Caribbean coast and immerse yourself in the vibrant port city of Cartagena. Discover Cartagena’s most iconic sites, including the imposing San Felipe de Barajas Fortress, one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks atop the San Lazaro Hill, part of the city’s defence against pirates. Venture even higher to La Popa Convent, where you'll find a pristine gold-plated altar dedicated to the Virgin de la Candelaria, patron saint of the city. Discover the vendors and locals along the sun-kissed streets before the sun sets, and your discovery of Cartagena’s nightlife begins. Begin with a cocktail at a sea-view lounge and a delicious dinner at a local restaurant before embracing the salsa rhythms at a lively bar, creating an unforgettable and authentic Cartagena atmosphere.

Day 5

San Felipe Colonial Fortress & La Popa Hilltop Convent

This half-day experience takes in two of the most iconic sights in Cartagena. Located just outside the historic old town, the imposing San Felipe de Barajas fortress is one of the city's most distinctive landmarks and is a formidable example of military might and architecture. Rising above the skyline, from this dominant vantage point the Spanish kept watch over the entrances to the city both by land and sea. San Felipe is the largest Spanish-built fortification in the New World, and along with the ramparts and stone walls was part of the city's defence against marauding pirates. Built on top of the San Lázaro hill, construction began in 1536 and continued for some 200 years. Underneath this amazing structure is a labyrinth of tunnels, many of which are still accessible. The sun-soaked fortifications are a living breathing history book, steeped with tales of old. The La Popa Convent sits in a privileged position, and is the highest landmark in the city. The convent started life as a humble and modest wooden chapel in the early 1600s but was later fortified and expanded to its current majesty. The cool, leafy, flower-filled courtyard and patio lead out to a viewing platform. From here there are panoramic vistas that stretch out over the city, old town, the bay of Cartagena, and the Caribbean Sea beyond. Inside the small chapel is the immaculate gold-plated and carved alter and ornate decoration dedicated to the "Virgin de la Candelaria", patron saint of the city. The convent still plays an important role in the life of the city's Catholics and is often full to bursting on religious holidays.
