Scotland's oldest inhabited Castle - Dalhousie Castle is located in Midlothian Scotland, near the town of Bonnyrigg, just 8 miles from Edinburgh's city centre.
The caste was the seat of the Earls of Dalhousie, the chieftains of Clan Ramsay.
The Castle, which is situated in the parish of Cockpen, eight miles south of Edinburgh, dates from the 13th century, although only the enormously thick walls at the foundation level and the vaults remain, of the original building. The main parts of the present structure were built about 1450 from red stone quarried from the opposite bank of the South Esk River on which the Castle stands. In the succeeding centuries there have been various additions and modifications, but the essential form of the Castle which had an L-shaped keep surrounded by an outer curtain wall can still be clearly discerned.Facilities

Overlooking one of Edinburgh's prettiest private garden squares, The Principal Edinburgh Charlotte Square - formerly The Roxburghe Hotel - consists of seven inter-connecting Georgian townhouses in the heart of the New Town, a UNESCO world heritage site.
As the newest Principal hotel, it has undergone a multi-million restoration and refurbishment: all of our bedrooms and suites have been given a smart, new look, inspired by the golden age of travel and a genuine sense of Scottish hospitality. Guests familiar with PRINCIPAL will find familiar touch points, including the red bedside telephone, tuck box of treats and a vintage post box.

The Principal Edinburgh on George Street has been welcoming hotel guests since 1881. At its heart are five listed Georgian townhouses, built in 1775 as homes for Edinburgh's most prosperous citizens. Winner of Scottish Hotel of the Year at the 2017 Scottish Hotel Awards, The Principal Edinburgh George St is an ideal base from which to explore the city or conduct business. The sensitive, multi-million-pound restoration and refurbishment combines luxurious natural materials such as oak, marble and leather with a palette of colors inspired by the great 19th-century Scottish landscape painters. A nod to Edinburgh's rich literary heritage, The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen was once home to acclaimed novelist Susan Ferrier (an equal of Jane Austen, according to Sir Walter Scott), whilst Burr and Co. is a lovely coffee shop with a devoted local following. The hotel also boasts the magnificent King's Hall - a firm favorite for weddings and celebration - as well as seven additional meeting and event rooms and a newly equipped gym.
