The Taj Mahal is an exquisite monument to love, built by Shah Jahan to house the remains of his wife who died in childbirth. Set out from Delhi on a full-day trip by private vehicle to visit both the Taj and the extraordinary Agra Fort, set on a hillside overlooking the Yamuna River. The primary structure of today's fort was built by Shah Jahan's grandfather, Mughal emperor Akbar, and took four thousand builders eight years of work to complete. In a bizarre twist of fate, Shah Jahan was put under house arrest here for the last eight years of his life, with a view of his beloved Taj Mahal. Explore this city within a city, including the public halls, mosques, bathing areas, courtyards and courtesan quarters. Return to Delhi in the late afternoon.
