Lima Stopover: Ancient Cultures

Duration
3 Days
Prices From:
US$ 309

Lima was one of the first cities established in South America by the conquistadores. The oldest part of the city is considered a cultural legacy of Peru with many jewels to discover.

Ancient Peru has captured the imagination of countless travellers, too many of whom bypass Lima on their way to Machu Picchu. Discover what they’re missing on this 3 day stop in the city of the conquistadores.

A half day city tour takes you to the UNESCO World Heritage listed Plaza de Armas. This historic heart and birthplace of Lima is surrounded by charming shops, a 16th century bronze fountain and historic Lima Cathedral. Explore the ornate library and underground catacombs of San Francisco monastery, where over 25,000 human skeletons are artistically arranged into geometric patterns. Then stop in at the Larco Herrera Museum, which showcases 4,000 years of Peru’s pre-Columbian history. With your spare time, consider a stroll around the ‘Magical Water Park’, Parque de la Reserva, to see a creative blend of splashing and sculpture. Or learn about pre-Inca life in Peru at the Huaca Pucllana pyramid.
