For those with limited time, this inexpensive locally escorted tour is the perfect introduction to China.  In 10 days, you will have the opportunity to get to know the three most requested Chinese cities by North Americans.

Imperial Beijing is full of historical treasures. Start with the world’s largest public square, Tian An Men Square after which experience a return to the days of the Imperial Dynasties by visiting the Forbidden City, also known as the ImperialPalace. The Hutongs of old Beijing with their narrow alleyways will reveal a lifestyle still active but no longer generally in vogue.

The Great Wall of China will never disappoint the visitor with its stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Then it’s on to the Ming tombs, the sacred burial grounds of former Emperors.

The beautiful Temple of Heaven is where the Imperial Emperors used to worship and the SummerPalace is the retreat to which they escaped from the heat.

Next stop is Xian, the ancient capital and old walled city with its famous Terra Cotta Warriors discovered not so long ago although they are 2000 years old.

The final stop is Shanghai, a city which combines the traditional with the contemporary.  Enjoy a walk on the Bund and a performance of the world renowned Acrobatic Show. A day to Suzhou, one of China’s most beautiful cities is included during your stay. You will enjoy visits to an ornamental garden and a silk factory as well as have a cruise along the network of interesting canals.

Day 1

Arrive Beijing

Welcome to China! Beijing is a thriving, modern city with countless treasures from dynasties past, including the Forbidden City, Imperial Palace, Summer Palace and Tian'anmen Square. In addition, about two hours outside of the city is one of the great wonders of the world, the 6,000-kilometer-long Great Wall of China. Upon arrival you will be met by Goway's local representative and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Day 2

Beijing Sightseeing

Today visit the Forbidden City, whose splendid 15th-century halls and pavilions are graced with imperial treasures. Afterwards, visit Tian'anmen Square, the largest public square in the world. Continue on to the Summer Palace, a complex of pavilions, temples, and gardens centered around Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill. (Optional evening excursion: Kung Fu show and Peking Duck dinner.)

Day 3

The Great Wall

Today you will visit the magnificent Badaling section of the Great Wall of China, located approximately one-and-a-half hours northwest of Beijing. The Badaling section was built in 1505, along with a military outpost reflecting the location's strategic importance. This section is one of the best preserved and most visited areas of the Great Wall. Enjoy stunning views as you stroll along this seemingly endless piece of history, which winds its way far into the distance. Later there will be a short photo stop at the famous Bird's Nest and Water Cube (built for the 2008 Olympics).

Day 4

Beijing

This morning visit the beautiful Temple of Heaven, a masterpiece of Ming Dynasty architecture. This blue-tiled temple exemplifies Chinese perfection of form and space. You'll spot Beijingers doing Tai Chi and other morning exercises. After lunch, embark on a tour of Beijing's famous Hutongs. Travel the narrow alleyways by rickshaw, filled with vendors and shoppers, and visit a local home.

Day 5

Beijing to Xian

Fly to the ancient capital of Xi'an (included), a veritable treasure trove of Chinese culture. This afternoon, visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist pagoda originally built in the 7th century, and the Shaanxi History Museum, which contains priceless murals, paintings, pottery and coins.

Day 6

Xian Sightseeing

Today, visit the over one thousand life-sized terra cotta warriors which have been standing guard by the tomb of Qin Shi Huang for 2,000 years. The individually-sculpted warriors are often referred to as the archaeological find of the 20th century. En route back to the city in the afternoon, stop at a ceramic and pottery centre. Tonight, enjoy a special dumpling dinner and Tang Dynasty show.

Xian to Shanghai

Fly to Shanghai (included), the largest city in China. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The afternoon is free for you to relax or do some exploring and shopping on your own.

Day 8

Shanghai Sightseeing

Spend a full day exploring Shanghai today, starting with the 16th-century Yu Garden. Yu Garden was commissioned by a government officer of the Ming Dynasty to create a place of tranquility for his parents. Continue to the impressive Shanghai Museum which includes enormous fine stone sculptures, bronze-ware, porcelain and calligraphic works. Afterwards, visit the iconic Bund promenade and Tianzifang, an old arts and crafts enclave that is now home to boutique shops, bars and restaurants. This evening, attend the outstanding Shanghai acrobatic show.

Day 9

Shanghai to Suzhou to Shanghai

Today, take a daytrip to Suzhou, China's "Venice of the East". Visit the Master of Nets Garden, considered to be one of the finest in China, and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take a cruise on Suzhou's grand canal and stop at a silk factory. Explore photogenic Pingjiang Historic Street, lined with bookshops and teahouses. Return to Shanghai for an evening at leisure.

Depart Shanghai
