Guatemala Weather
While the weather in Guatemala changes depending on altitude, there are generally three different climate zones: the coastal plains, a cool zone and a temperate zone. The coastal plains enjoy a tropical climate with high temperatures and humidity all year. Average daytime temperatures are around 37˚C (100˚F) while nighttime rarely gets below 21˚C (70˚F). Guatemala’s cool zone is in the mountainous region with daytime temperatures averaging around 21˚C (70˚F) while evening temperatures can be very cold. Finally, the temperate zone includes cities like Antigua and Guatemala City. Here the climate is comfortable with warm days and cool (but not cold) nights. Daytime temperatures can reach a high of 29˚C (85˚F).
As well as different climate zones, the country also experiences a rainy season and a dry season. The rainy season tends to fall between May to October but is characterized by rain in the afternoon rather than heavy tropical storms. The dry season is from March to early May and there are also dry periods in July and August. During the dry periods, Guatemala may go weeks without rain.
