The falls are some of the most spectacular in the world and the surrounding parks are equally stunning hosting unique jungle ecosystems that house immense bird and animal life including monkeys, various birds and several plant species.
Another popular tourist spot is Peninsula Valdes and the neighbouring town of Puerto Madryn. The peninsula, situated along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, consists of two natural inlets that provide a great deal of protection for many animal species. This part of Argentina offers the opportunity to see many marine species including killer whales, elephant seals and more. The region is known for the southern right whales that use the natural bays as a resting ground on their journey south to Antarctica between June and November.
Patagonia is a region at the southern end of the South American continent. Shared by Argentina and Chile, it encompasses parts of the Andes mountain range, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Tierra del Fuego peninsula. Within Patagonia is El Calafate, often considered the gateway to Antarctica’s glaciers. Nature lovers have the chance to explore the impressive Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the few glaciers in the world that is not retreating. Ushuaia is also found in Patagonia and is an important port city for cruise ships venturing to Antarctica. The wildlife in the region is spectacular with a great deal of bird life including penguins, as well as seals that colonize islands in the Beagle Channel and of course, whales. Many people also come to enjoy and explore Tierra del Fuego National Park, the southernmost national park in the world.
The aforementioned regions are only a sampling of the nature and wildlife available within Argentina’s borders. There are several national parks and reserves as well as a famous lake region, the Andes mountain range, salt pans and more.
