Highlights of Barcelona

From the whimsical delights of Gaudi’s imagination to the classical beauty of the city’s Gothic quarter, discover the unique culture of Catalonia in Spain’s most enchanting and imaginative city. Then, combine gourmet food and Catalan culture and visit famous tapas bars and La Boqueria market.

This 4-day stay in Barcelona invites you to experience the beauty, romance, and whimsy of Catalonia’s great capital.

Enjoy a full day touring the city with a small group, starting at Montjuic Hill, site of both the 1992 Olympics and the Catalunya National Art Museum. No visit to Barcelona would be complete of course without visiting Sagrada Familia. Gaudi’s swirling monument to God is still yet to be completed, but nonetheless looks and feels like a gateway to another world. Visions of Gaudi’s genius also line Passeig de Gracia, home to the undulating La Padrera, and colourful Casa Batllo.

The Gothic Quarter offers a very different side of Barcelona, but one that’s no less memorable. Take a short guided walk filled with Roman history and stunning architecture, before you dive into the fashionable Born district – the ideal spot for a tapas lunch. Afterwards, head to Park Guell, Barcelona’s favourite urban playground where Gaudi’s imagination comes to life in the form of giant mosaic lizards, gingerbread houses, and other flights of fantastical, yet functional fancy. Your tour ends by returning to La Padrera for a ‘skip the line’ tour.

Your second full day in Barcelona is far more relaxed, with a three hour tapas tour inviting you to try the unique flavours of Catalonia, plus visit local markets like iconic La Boqueria, where you can learn about fresh ingredients and local wine.

Day 2

Full Day Barcelona - Small Group

We start our tour with a drive to the famous hill of Montjuic, which offers excellent views over the city and was the site of the 1992 Olympic games. After a brief stop at the Catalunya National Art Museum (MNAC), from where we will tell you all about the history of Barcelona, we will make our way down to Plaça Espanya and on past the Modernist buildings of the Eixample area.
Our drive to the iconic Sagrada Familia will take us up Passeig de Gracia, home to the famous designer stores, and the setting for two of Barcelona's most talked about Gaudi buildings: La Pedrera and Casa Batllo.
Finally, we will arrive at Sagrada Familia where your guide will explain all about the history and importance before showing you inside for a self-guided tour. Our 'Skip the Line' policy means entrance tickets will have been pre-purchased and there will be! For many, this is the highlight of their Barcelona trip as they experience the wonders of the Sagrada Familia at their own pace without being rushed around by a guide.
The group will then head to the oldest part of Barcelona, the Barrio Gotico, which, as late, the mid 19th century was still surrounded by the Medieval walls. At this point, we will leave the bus and enjoy a stroll through the narrow winding streets of medieval Barcelona.
At the start of our short walk through the historic streets of Barcelona, we will stop for the brief tour of one of Barcelona's most traditional indoor food markets: Mercat de Santa Caterina.
From there, we will travel back in time, going from the Roman era through to the early Middle Ages, when the Catalan counts were controlling the Mediterranean sea, and Barcelona was the capital of an empire. During this part of the tour, we will also visit the Jewish Quarter, the Royal Palace, the original 2000-year-old Roman Temple and part of the Cathedral.
The final part of the morning tour takes in part of the Born district, where the guide will point out a variety of restaurants and tapas bars suitable for lunch before ending the trip in the magnificent Santa Maria del Mar church - one of the most beautiful in Barcelona.
After a quick lunch, we head straight to Park Guell, the famous city garden designed by Anton Gaudi. The guide will lead the group down through the park explaining the garden concept and introducing you to some of Gaudi's most bizarre creations.
From the Park, we head straight to one of the most famous Gaudi buildings of them all: La Pedrera. We will have an hour here to visit inside the building. Our 'Skip the Line' policy means that there is no waiting in queues! The tour ends here at around 4pm.
