The amazing natural landscapes and unique culinary scene that has been gaining global recognition in recent years give you plenty of options to pack your itinerary. Discover every corner of Tasmania with stops at Launceston, Cradle Mountain National Park, Freycinet, Richmond, and Hobart.


This group tour is a sample itinerary. Your 9-day Tasmania group vacation begins in the city of Launceston. Explore the city on foot or cruise along Launceston’s riverfront to the 65-million-year-old Cataract Gorge. Take a short trip north to the Tamar Wine Valley and enjoy a meal with a glass of wine from one of the over 30 local wineries.

Continue west with your group to Cradle Mountain National Park. Stop at Elizabeth Town and visit the Ashgrove cheese farm to enjoy several locally produced cheeses and other Tasmanian produce. After your early lunch, continue to Sheffield and discover the town’s history through the over 140 murals on the town’s streets. Finish your day alongside some Tasmanian devils, spotted-tailed quoll, and eastern quoll at Devils @ Cradle, a Tasmanian devil sanctuary at the edge of Cradle Mountain National Park.

Make your way deeper into Cradle Mountain National Park to Dove Lake and take in the epic yet intimate views of Cradle Mountain around the glacially carved lake. Visit the Waldheim Chalet to learn about the history of the national park before hiking alongside ancient King Billy pines, endemic to Tasmania, on the Weindorfers Forest Walk. Finish your group tour of the national park at Pencil Pine Falls before travelling to Tasmania’s east coast where you will spend the night in Freycinet.

Proceed south to the capital city of Hobart, stopping at the crystal blue waters of Wineglass Bay Beach and the historical Richmond Bridge built by convicts in the 1820s, making it the oldest bridge in Australia. Your group will have three nights in Hobart to explore the city’s Royal Botanical Gardens and board a catamaran for an almost five-hour Tasmanian seafood tour with local Tasmanian beer, wine, cider, and exciting wildlife encounters.

Cataract Gorge Cruise

The morning is at leisure, before we depart on a cruise along the scenic river and discover the Cataract Gorge. Cruise along Launceston’s riverfront as your enjoy views of Kings Wharf, The Seaport and enjoy the spectacular views of the Gorge.

The rest of the day is at leisure, before a welcome dinner.

Tamar Wine Valley

Today we explore the Tamar Wine Valley, home to over 30 wineries. There will be an opportunity to taste some of the Valleys wines, and also enjoy lunch.

Day 4

Launceston to Cradle Mountain

After breakfast, we start our journey to UNESCO World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain National Park. Leaving Launceston and heading west toward Cradle Mountain. Stop at Elizabeth Town and visit Ashgrove cheese farm, where you can taste the amazing styles of cheese on offer plus an abundance of other locally produced Tasmanian product. Next stop is Sheffield, the town of Murals, Leaving Sheffield we commence our climb up and along the Western Tiers to reach the top of the plateau on our route to Cradle Mountain. On a nice clear day Cradle Mountain itself will become visible at certain points of the drive, so keep your eyes peeled out the windows so you don’t miss out on these stunning views

This evening, Devils@Cradle after dark. Devils@Cradle is a Tasmanian devil sanctuary located just 500m from the entrance to the Cradle Mountain National Park. The sanctuary breeds Tasmania’s three unique threatened carnivorous marsupials; the Spotted-tail, the Eastern quoll, and the Tasmanian devil which is the primary focus of the sanctuary. Enjoy a guided tour with a keeper who will ensure a close up encounter with a Tasmanian devil. Wander through the sanctuary and see the animal's daylight habits, sleeping in their dens, sunbaking, play fighting or fossicking for food and gain a greater understanding of this unique animal and the Devils@Cradle conservation programs.

Day 5

Cradle Mountain to Freycinet

We drive into the National Park during which time our guides will give an interesting commentary about the Park and an explanation of the tour. After a 20 minute journey we arrive at Dove Lake where there will be chance to capture the great views of the lake and across to Cradle Mountain, at times the Mountain will be shrouded in cloud but this still offers the incredible scenery of the lake. After the awe of viewing the area we take a short drive to Waldheim Chalet, the first accommodation in the area and home to Gustav and Kate Weindorfer. The original chalet was built by them in 1912 but what stands today is a full replica built in the 1970’s by similar techniques using local King Billy pine. After we take a tour through the chalet we are led through the ancient King Billy Pine Weindorfers Forest, a short walk of 15 minute through cool temperate rainforest. Our guides will highlight all the different tree and plant species and you may even see some of the local animals. On the return to the bus we have samples of the different unique timbers that are used by specialist timber workers for you to feel and touch.

We leave the Waldheim area and travel to the Interpretive Centre and Rangers Station where you can view the many photos and read interesting articles of the region. From here we proceed out to the Pencil Pine Falls loop track, walking amongst giant Myrtle and Pencil Pine trees en-route to Pencil Pine Falls. At the conclusion of this interactive and interesting tour we return to your hotel. Depart the Cradle Valley and travel to Tasmania's East Coast, with its exceptional beauty, pristine white sandy beaches and granite coastline.

Day 6

Freycinet to Hobart via Richmond

We make our way to Hoart today, via Wineglass Bay lookout, which is situated high on the ridges above the bay with its azure blue waters and white sand. Please note is a 1.5 km walk up a steep, rocky, well-constructed track. Your walk is rewarded with spectacular views of the bay and the parklands. There is much to see and photograph along the way and visitors can choose to have a picnic at the lookout. Located on the Freycinet Peninsula, Tasmania, Wineglass Bay is considered one of the top ten beaches in the world. The dazzling white sandy beach frames the sparkling ocean with a backdrop of pink and grey granite peaks. Wineglass Bay is great for fishing, sailing, sea-kayaking or relaxing on the beach and enjoying the spectacular scenery.

We will continue our way down the east coast into Tasmanian’s capital city, Hobart. En-route, we will visit heritage town – Richmond. Richmond has more than 50 Georgian buildings, many beautifully restored and now operating as cafes, restaurants, galleries and accommodation. The town's most photographed landmark is the Richmond Bridge. Built by convicts in the 1820s, it's the oldest bridge in Australia and offers a perfect picnic spot on the grassy banks of the Coal River.

Day 7

Tasmanian Seafood Cruise

We board a catamaran for a 4.5 hour experience, that includes a seafood feast, Tasmanian beer, wine and cider, this cruise showcases all things local. As you cruise, there is also the opportunity to sightsee and wildlife encounters.

This evening, we depart on a storytelling tour, and learn about some the history of Hobart, and some of its darker secrets….

Day 8

Hobart

This morning, we explore more of Hobart, and also visit the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens. The Gardens covers an area of over 14 hectares, and is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. As you walk around taking in all around you, you will be able to see many collections, including a conservation area where there are many rare and threatened species, conifers and cool temperate trees (some of which ate back to the 19th century), and the flora of MacQuarie Island.

This evening, our tour draws to an end, with a farewell dinner.
