Australia Family Vacations

  • Vacationing Downunder

Why is Australia a great place for a family vacation?

As a large country with many different environments and cities to explore, Australia is perfect for a family vacation. In the cities, families can visit exciting museums, spot animals at the zoo or aquarium, or enjoy a day at the beach. Outside of the cities along the coastline or in the Outback, families can go looking for animals, explore the rainforest, or enjoy a snorkel adventure together. It’s also easy to find comfortable places to stay in Australia, with a variety of accommodation options including apartment-style hotels, beachside resorts, campgrounds, and motorhomes. Australia also has a wide variety of food options that make it easy to get the kids a meal they’ll like.

What are the top family activities to do in Australia?

Family travellers can stay in Sydney and see kangaroos and koalas at the Taronga Zoo, cruise the famous harbour on a hop-on hop-off cruise, and lounge around Bondi Beach for the day. Outside of the city, more active families can go hiking in the Blue Mountains.

Families will love watching the adorable Little Penguin Parade on Phillip Island not too far from Melbourne. In the tropical north families can cruise the Great Barrier Reef and learn about Indigenous customs and practice throwing a boomerang at Kuranda in the rainforest. Further south, family travellers can feed dolphins along the Gold Coast, take a surf lesson, or visit the Australia Zoo to cuddle a koala and feed kangaroos.

In the Northern Territory, family travellers can visit Uluru/Ayers Rock and learn about Indigenous traditions, see camels and desert lizards in Alice Springs, and spot saltwater crocodiles at Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin in the Top End.
