Overview

Take a trip to Agadir on your Morocco Vacation

On the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in southwestern Morocco is Agadir, one of the country’s major cities and a favourite holiday destination for foreigners and locals alike on Morocco vacations.

With its location on the coast, Agadir was a fishing village during medieval times. At the beginning of the 16th century, the Portuguese established a trading post; however, by the middle of the century, Agadir had come under the control of the Saadi Dynasty. The next two centuries were prosperous ones for the city until an earthquake left it devastated in 1731. The Agadir Crisis of 1911 gave France the opportunity they needed to occupy almost all of Morocco making it a protectorate in 1912. Struck by another earthquake in 1960, Agadir was remodeled into a thoroughly modern city.

On a Morocco vacaton package, the country’s top sea resort, Agadir does not fit into the mold of a traditional Moroccan city. Forced to rebuild only four years after independence and fueled by tourism, it is a very modern and well-designed destination. Popular with European travelers on a Morocco vacation package, many people come to Agadir for the beach. Offering on average 300 days of sunshine annually, Agadir’s coast provides the climate and waves that surfers enjoy. Unlike other parts of North Africa that are situated on the Atlantic, the city is sheltered from ocean winds and beaches are well maintained and protected.

The country has a diverse cuisine that not only combines spices to build dishes, but is designed to complement local heritage and traditions. Make sure you try harira soup and a fragrant gladd of mint tea!

I recommend experiencing a hammam, riding through the dunes on a camel, and spending the night in the desert. Along with other activities like souk shopping and cooking classes.
