Patagonia is a region at the southern end of the South American continent that is shared by Argentina and Chile. It encompasses parts of the Andes mountain range, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Tierra del Fuego peninsula. It's defined by its dramatic landscapes, unpredictable weather, and striking isolation. Popular with hikers, Patagonia is one of the world's leading adventure travel destinations.
While human habitation has existed in the region for thousands of years, it is believed that the first European contact occurred in 1520 with Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. Others followed to explore the area including Charles Darwin, who spent a great deal of time studying Patagonia. By the middle of the 19th century, both Argentina and Chile began to expand south encouraging European settlers. The 20th century witnessed tourism becoming central to the region’s economy initially attracting backpackers and then cruise passengers en route to Antarctica as well as adventure sports enthusiasts.
Tourism is still a vital part of Patagonia as it offers several interesting and unique destinations. One of the principal attractions in Chilean Patagonia is Torres del Paine National Park, with its distinctive mountains, granite towers, glaciers, lakes, and rivers. It's a popular hiking destination with renowned circuits such as the W Trek. Its central three Towers are some of the most distinctive natural landmarks in the country.

Goway hires a local tour group, Jenman Safaris, to lead the safari in the 2 countries. The tour itself was amazing...the lodges that we stayed at were very nice and the food was great (except for one lodge's food). The Goway itinerary was slightly different than the actual Jenman Safari itinerary but most of the sites that we went to were the same as listed on the Goway itinerary.
