Take a trip to Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) on your Bhutan Vacation
Tiger's Nest is a sacred Buddhist site and perhaps Bhutan's most famous attraction. It is both a hiking adventure and a spiritual quest, culminating in a temple complex consisting of 13 monasteries hanging off one side of a cliff, rising over 9,600 ft (2,926 m) above sea level. Built in 1692, the monastery is dedicated to Guru Rinpoche, who spread Buddhism in Tibet. He is believed to have flown to this location on the back of a tigress and meditated in the cave for three years to tame a demon. The name Tiger's Nest comes from this legend.
On average, the hike takes 4-5 hours (alternatively, you can rent a horse or mule to ride uphill). There is a cafeteria at about the halfway point where you can rest, have a snack, and use the restroom. The second half of the climb is less steep, bringing you to the famous viewpoint where all the amazing pictures are taken, and eventually leading you down a stone staircase towards the base of the temple complex. Photos are not allowed inside the monasteries, so you must leave your belongings in the safe lockers outside the temples. Tiger's Nest opens at 8 am. Get here early to avoid some of the crowd. Hiking poles can be bought at the site's entrance.

You should absolutely attend a tshechu festival when visiting Bhutan, especially the one in Paro or Thimphu. These religious dance festivals are colourful, energetic, spiritual, and deeply rooted in local community life.

There were so many highlights on our trip from the animal sightings, to the balloon flight and champagne breakfast, to all the incredible scenery.
Our accommodations were stunning! The level of service was remarkable and the locations were beyond our expectations. To think we would be having dinner and seeing the zebras and the elephants in the distance was amazing!
Our tour guide/driver was very knowledgeable, friendly, passionate and had a keen eye for spotting animals in the distance. He made sure that we saw all the animals that we had hoped to see. it was truly a pleasure to spend the week with him.

Our only criticism is that they do not break down the various costs of a trip which makes tipping very awkward. It can also create a sense of " mistrust" when all the costs are not transparent. Goway hires a local tour group, Jenman Safaris, to lead the safari in the 2 countries. The tour itself was amazing...the lodges that we stayed at were very nice and the food was great (except for one lodge's food). The Goway itinerary was slightly different than the actual Jenman Safari itinerary but most of the sites that we went to were the same as listed on the Goway itinerary. I would use Goway again because their choice of a local tour group was very good...nice lodges/camps and good food and knowledgeable tour guides.Ma FaOur GoWay tour representative, Michael Keon, was on top of all of our concerns and questions in a professional manner and we look forward to working with him in the future.
