Overview

Take a trip to Bagan on your Myanmar Vacation

When on a Myanmar tour, do visit the ancient city of Bagan (formerly known as Pagan) located in the central region of Myanmar. It features one of the richest archaeological sites in Asia.

Situated on the banks of the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River, Bagan is home to the largest and densest concentration of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas, and ruins in the world.

Bagan was the capital city of the Kingdom of Pagan, back from the 9th to 13th centuries. During its height, between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone. Although only over 2000 structures have survived, the Bagan Plain, covering an area of 42 sq. km, still offers majestic views of these sacred monuments. all to be experienced on a Myanmar vacation.

Schwezigon Pagoda is considered Bagan’s most important reliquary shrine. Completed in 1102 A.D., with its gold-leaf, gilded stupa, it is believed to enshrine a bone and tooth of Gautama Buddha.

Offering a magnificent rooftop view of the surrounding area, The Gubyaukgyi Temple was built in 1113 A.D. and is modeled after Bodh Gaya in India. Depicting scenes from the Jataka tales, the well-preserved paintings are said to be the oldest remaining in Bagan.

I love learning about Nicaragua's culture and experiencing its Spanish influence in some cities. I was only there for five days, but I'll never forget how delicious the food was and how welcoming and extremely polite the people were.

The colourful Spanish architecture, the beautiful scenery, particularly the stunning lakes, and the Mayan ruins are what I love most about Guatemala!
