Take a trip to Liberia on your Costa Rica Vacation
Located in the Guanacaste province of northwest Costa Rica is the city of Liberia. Nicknamed “la ciudad blanca” (the white house) by residents because of its white adobe houses and gravel roads, Liberia acts as the capital and gateway on a Costa Rica vacation to the incredible natural beauty of the province it inhabits.
Liberia was founded in 1769 primarily as a rest stop for travellers due to its location where roads from the towns of Rivas, Bagaces and Nicoya met and because of the famous Guanacaste trees that provided a great deal of shade. Despite having economic ties to Nicaraguan territory upon independence from Spain, the entire Guanacaste province became part of Costa Rica in 1826.
Modern-day Liberia was originally called Guanacaste and was designated as a city in 1836 (its name was later changed to Liberia in 1854). The city continued to grow in importance due to agriculture and livestock and late in the 20th century, it became a major jumping-off point for tourists on Costa Rica vacations wishing to explore the Pacific Coast.

Costa Rica is not just all about the beaches. There is so much more to discover including volcanoes, lush rainforests, and abundant wildlife.
Costa Rica is also globally admired for its values - the country’s commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices is truly part of its DNA
If your main interest is beach time, December to April offers the best weather. However do not discount visiting during the Green Season in September, which reveals a different side of the country, full of wildlife and vibrant scenery.
I love the country’s rich biodiversity and stunning natural beauty. It combines rainforests, volcanoes, and beaches in one destination.
