Overview

Take a trip to Torres Del Paine National Park on your Chile Vacation

Torres del Paine National Park is one of Chile’s largest and most important national parks that can be visited on a Chile vacation. With the Cordillera del Paine at the centre, the park borders Bernardo O’Higgins National Park to the west and Los Glaciares National Park to the north in Argentina.

The park was originally established in 1959 under the name Grey Lake National Tourism Park. Eleven years later it was given its current name. In 1977, Guido Monzino, an Italian mountain climber and explorer donated 12,000 hectares to the Chilean government defining the borders that exist to this day. The following year, UNESCO named the area a World Biosphere Reserve.

The park is considered one of the most beautiful and uncontaminated places in the world as it hosts mountains, glaciers, lakes and rivers. The name Torres del Paine (Towers of Paine) comes from the three peaks of the mountain range that dominate the area. A popular tourist destination on Chile vacations, the park offers half-day tours to the towers as well as longer treks that can last anywhere from five to nine days. Known for its conservation efforts, hikers are not allowed to stray from the paths due to the effects visitor impact can have on the environment. As a result, paths are clearly marked and visitors are allowed to experience hiking through stunning forests, past glaciers and over rivers and lakes encountering incredible amounts of flora and fauna at every turn.

Pastel de choclo, sweet corn baked over savoury meat, olives, and eggs, is a must-try. Pair it with a pisco sour or a glass of Carménère or Sauvignon Blanc.

Rapa Nui, also known as Easter Island, offers a profound spiritual connection to nature and culture. The night skies, volcanic landscapes, and iconic Moai statues make it one of the most isolated and romantic places on earth.
