Take a trip to Nova Scotia on your Canada Vacation
The South Shore is a summer playground for residents of both Canada and the United States. Historic Lunenburg is a UNESCO heritage site that is home to dozens of wildly colourful buildings. It’s also the home of Canada’s most famous ship, the Bluenose. Take a drive out to tiny Blue Rocks for a glimpse of a quintessential Nova Scotia fishing village. Further south and west, you’ll find tons of beautiful coastlines with brilliant white and red lighthouses. Port Royal was Canada’s first permanent European settlement, founded by the French in 1605. Nearby Annapolis Royal is home to Fort Anne, which has been controlled over the years by the French, Scots, British – and now visitors from Canada and around the world. Further up the beautiful, quiet Annapolis Valley, you’ll find the town of Wolfville, home to Acadia University. This area is famous for its wines and for the Grand Pre National Historic Site, which traces the sad story of the Acadians and their expulsion from Canada. Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail is rightly praised as one of the great drives on the planet. The road surges and rises and falls along towering cliffs and takes you past empty beaches and cute coastal towns like Mabou and Ingonish.

Try and visit the Quebec Winter Carnival. It’s one of the biggest and most famous winter festivals in the world, with snow sculptures, ice canoe races, night parades, and plenty of traditional Quebecois food and music.
Visitors to Canada just do not understand how different each region can feel, it’s almost like visiting several countries in one. Beyond the big cities and famous sights, there are countless small towns, Indigenous communities, and local traditions that give you a whole new perspective on the country.
