Overview

Take a trip to Arizona on your United States Vacation

If drama in the desert stirs your wanderlust, then Arizona is the ultimate travel stage. From serene deserts and the red rocks of Sedona to the nation’s biggest national landmark, the Grand Canyon, Arizona is an American geological treasure trove, sure to capture your heart, and camera each time you visit.

The Grand Canyon is Arizona’s biggest star, and at a mile (1.6km) deep, 18 miles (29km) wide, and 277 miles (445km) long, the largest formation of its kind on earth. Visitors flock year-round to the South Rim for the best views, and to hike and immerse themselves in the indigenous history and culture of the region. In the warmer months, the North Rim offers a quieter, less curated experience, while Grand Canyon West is located close to the Nevada border and is popular with day-trippers from Las Vegas.

Between the Grand Canyon and Phoenix, Sedona is a natural treasure in its own right, famous for its red rock formations, a vivid blend of indigenous cultures, a thriving artistic scene, and its mysterious energy vortexes. Perhaps nowhere else in Arizona captures the appeal of this landscape quite like Sedona, with countless trails to explore in between historic archeological sites and natural formations like Cathedral Rock, the Devil’s Bridge, and Seven Sacred Pools.

Head northeast from Phoenix and you’ll find yourself amid the eerie beauty of Petrified Forest National Park. To the north, take a tour to marvel at the light beams that—at least in summer—flood the swirling red rocks of Antelope Canyon. On the Utah border, deep within Navajo lands, you can take in a view synonymous with the West at Oljato-Monument Valley. Many of the valley’s best sights and viewpoints are only accessible with a Navajo guide, so this is a great spot to slow down and immerse yourself in the indigenous culture of Arizona and the surrounding states.

When you’re not on the road to your next adventure, Arizona offers a wide range of luxury resort options, particularly in the Phoenix and Sedona areas, allowing you to rest your weary hiking limbs. Alternatively, test your skills on one of the 200+ golf courses that dot Phoenix and its neighbouring communities. Whatever story you’re hoping to write in Arizona, it’s sure to be a compelling and memorable one.
