Buenos Aires, Patagonia, Eva Peron, and malbec wine. Everyone has a sense of Argentine icons, but not everyone knows what it’s like to actually travel to Argentina. Luckily, we’ve got our Goway Destination Specialists, who know the destinations they sell inside and out. We chatted with Virginia Dameno, Senior Destination Specialist, to learn more about travel to Argentina.
What's your favourite place to visit in Argentina?
I love northern Argentina! The unique colour of the mountains, the small timeless towns, the kind people—this region offers an authentic and unique experience for travellers.
What’s a great way to explore Argentina?
Argentina makes for a great combination with other neighbouring countries. Journey through Patagonia starting in Chile and ending in Argentina, or visit Iguassu Falls from the Argentine side before passing into Brazil to continue the journey.
What’s a hidden gem in Argentina that more people should know about?
The provinces of Salta and Jujuy in northern Argentina. These places are relatively unknown internationally but are some of the country's most spectacular regions.
What’s a famous landmark that people shouldn’t miss?
The obelisk on Buenos Aires 9 de Julio Avenue, the world's widest avenue.
When’s the best time to visit Argentina?
Argentina is a year-round destination so the best time to visit really depends on the places you want to visit. Generally speaking, the spring (October to November) and fall (March to May) are the most popular as the weather is mild, making it perfect for both exploring the cities and the national parks.
What’s something people should know before visiting Argentina?
You need plenty of time to do justice to a vacation in Argentina. The main tourist regions are spread far apart and aren't always well connected, meaning travelling between them can easily take a full day.
What’s a common misconception about Argentina?
That is warm and tropical. Argentina stretches almost to Antarctica and Patagonia can be cold and windy, even during the summer. Its climate is more temperate than other Latin American destinations.
What’s your favourite accommodation style in Argentina?
A good way to experience Argentina's traditions is to spend a couple of days on an estancia (ranch), where you can experience life in the countryside, enjoy the gaucho (cowboy) hospitality, watch beautiful sunsets, and disconnect from the rest of the world.
What’s the top food or drink in Argentina that you’d recommend?
You absolutely need to try a traditional asado (Argentine barbeque) paired with a glass of Argentinean malbec.
Goway’s Destination Specialists like Virginia Dameno are experts at planning tailor-made trips to Argentina. You can start planning your own globetrotting adventure with a free quote.
You might say that Aren was destined to become a globetrotter after his family took him to Germany two times before he was four. If that wasn’t enough, a term spent in Sweden as a young teenager and a trek across Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand confirmed that destiny. An independent writer, director, and film critic, Aren has travelled across Africa, Asia, Central America, Europe, the Middle East, and South America. His favourite travel experience was visiting the major cities of Japan’s largest island, Honshu, but his love for food, drink, and film will take him anywhere that boasts great art and culture.
