Panoramic view of rice paddies, boats, rivers, and limestone mountains in Ninh Binh, Vietnam

This enchanted landscape of limestone mountains and rice paddies in Vietnam is known as Halong Bay on Land. But how do you get there and what can you do once you arrive?

Where is Ninh Binh?

Ninh Binh province lies just to the south of the Vietnamese capital Hanoi. The province’s capital, also known as Ninh Binh, and the town of Tam Coc are the main tourist centres.

Why should you go to Ninh Binh?

Limestone mountains rise alongside rice paddies. Rivers wind their way around farming villages. The sky is blue, the earth is green, and the entire landscape is magical. You can cycle alongside the rice paddies or go birdwatching in Van Long Nature Reserve, Vietnam’s largest wetlands. A boat ride in UNESCO-listed Trang An is the region’s most iconic experience. Sit back in a small rowboat as your oarsman uses their feet to paddle you down rivers and alongside cascading paddies and towering karsts.

How do you get to Ninh Binh?

Drive two hours south from Hanoi. It’s best to visit from March to May or September to November, when the weather is most comfortable, as it can get very hot in the summer months. Goway can easily add one or two nights in Ninh Binh to most Vietnamese vacations.

Goway’s Destination Specialists are experts at planning a visit to Ninh Binh as part of a tailor-made trip to Vietnam. Request a quote to start planning your globetrotting adventure.

You might say that Aren was destined to become a globetrotter after his family took him to Germany two times before he was four. If that wasn’t enough, a term spent in Sweden as a young teenager and a trek across Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand confirmed that destiny. An independent writer, director, and film critic, Aren has travelled across Africa, Asia, Central America, Europe, the Middle East, and South America. His favourite travel experience was visiting the major cities of Japan’s largest island, Honshu, but his love for food, drink, and film will take him anywhere that boasts great art and culture.
