Our Rhodes Tours

Rhodes, located in the Dodecanese group of islands, is one of the best-preserved medieval towns anywhere, with buildings that date back to Crusader times. The Knights of St. John of Jerusalem conquered Rhodes and built fortifications to protect the city. The island is ideal for simply relaxing but also for those wanting a more active Greece vacation. It has rich green hills, valleys, and a host of golden beaches. There are also numerous cultural and archaeological sites to visit.

Rhodes Vacations Highlights

The ancient city of Rhodes was first constructed in 407 BC and was designed according to the city planning system devised by the greatest city planner of antiquity, Hippodamus of Miletus. In 1309, the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem conquered Rhodes and built strong fortifications to protect the island, turning it into a thriving multinational medieval city. During the Ottoman occupation, new buildings were erected within the Old Town, mainly mosques and baths. In 1912, Rhodes was conquered by the Italians who added magnificent buildings, wide roads and squares. The Palace of the Grand Master was rebuilt and the Street of the Knights was reconstructed. At the end of the Street stands the Hospital of the Knights, which houses the Archaeological Museum. Rhodes is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Old Town of Rhodes is a mosaic of different cultures and civilizations, a wonderful stop on trips to Greece.

Rhodes Resorts

Down the coast lies Kallithea, a cosmopolitan holiday resort for a Greece vacation. It is bustling with hotels lining Faliraki beach. The main attraction here is the Roman Baths. Another resort is Ialissos, known for its windsurfing, kite surfing and sailing. You can walk up the “Via Crucis”, which leads to an enormous crucifix. The view from here out over the bay is stunning. Illuminated at night, the crucifix is clearly visible from below. The resort of Afandou has beautiful sandy beaches and an 18-hole golf course. Koskinou is a traditional village where the house facades are painted in bright colours and the lovely courtyards are paved with pebbles. The houses are decorated inside with ceramic plates and hand-woven textiles.

Ancient Cities

The town of Archangelos was rebuilt in medieval times and has a tradition of ancient arts and crafts such as pottery and hand-made tapestries. There are excellent beaches around here such as Tsambíka Beach at the foot of a steep cliff, where there is also the famous monastery of the Virgin Mary. Kamiros was one of the three most powerful cities of ancient Rhodes and flourished during the 5th and 6th Centuries BC. The ruins of the city and the neighbouring necropolis were discovered as late as 1859. The magnificent public buildings, markets, temples, houses and an acropolis are proof of the splendour and wealth of ancient Kamiros. The ancient city of Líndos was one of the three major towns of ancient Rhodes. The remains of the acropolis of Líndos facing the open sea were built on a steep rock. At the foot of the acropolis lies the traditional village of Líndos with its whitewashed houses, mansions, Byzantine churches and narrow cobbled streets, a wonderful experience on a Greece vacation.

The imposing Mount Ataviros is the highest mountain in Rhodes, where amazing views of the island are available. The village of Embonas is built on the mountainside covered with vineyards. It is famous for its excellent wines.
