Overview

Take a trip to KwaZulu Natal on your South Africa Vacation

KwaZulu-Natal is a province located in the southeastern part of South Africa. It shares international borders with Mozambique, Swaziland and Lesotho as well as domestic borders with Mpumalanga in the north, the Free State in the west and the Eastern Cape in the southwest. Prior to the elections of 1994, the area was made up of the old province of Natal and KwaZulu which was a Bantustan – a black homeland for the Zulu people which can be experienced on a South African vacation.

KwaZulu-Natal is the third smallest province in South Africa yet it hosts the second largest population. The area is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations on South African tours with several in-demand coastal holiday resorts including Port Shepstone, Umhlanga Rocks and Margate.

Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites are found in KwaZulu-Natal, iSimangaliso and Drakensberg Park on  South Africa travel. In 1999, iSimangaliso became South Africa’s first World Heritage Site due to its natural beauty and unique global values. Drakensberg Park, which is part of the Drakensberg Mountain Range was listed in 2000 because its diverse habitats protect a great deal of endemic and globally threatened species and also because it contains the largest and most concentrated group of rock and cave paintings in Africa south of the Sahara.

KwaZulu-Natal is also home to Zululand, the heart of the Kingdom of Zulu. In this region, modernity coexists with very traditional African ways of life in one of the most historic places in South Africa.
