Take a trip to Guilin on your China Vacation
The scenic town of Guilin is a well-known tourist destination on China tours. Many flocks here for the magnificent landscapes and clean air. Its beauty has been displayed in films such as Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and The Painted Veil.
Located in south China, Guilin is in the northeast area of the Guangxi region and sits on the west bank of the Li River. The fragrance of Sweet Osmanthus trees (for which Guilin is named) fills the air and adds to Guilin’s beauty, as do the two rivers, four lakes and karst mountains it is surrounded by.
A medium size city, Guilin’s main industry is tourism and therefore features many hotels, eateries, and shops, including a large underground bazaar. There are several museums, parks, and river cruises to enjoy as well as tours to China. Some landscape attractions in Guilin include Elephant Trunk Hill, Seven Star Park, and Reed Flute Cave.
Within a short distance are many other scenic places to visit including the Li River, listed as one of the World’s Top Ten Watery Wonders by National Geographic Magazine; Longsheng’s Rice Terraces, built 700 years ago and famous for its ethnic villages, the Lijiang River, and Yangshuo, a small county downstream from Guilin.

It is very enjoyable to travel in China by high-speed train, but you should avoid travelling during the National Holidays from October 1 to 7 and from May 1 to 4, as they get extra busy.
Jinxian Road in Shanghai is a small road but full of superb, Michelin-recognized restaurants. I highly recommend visiting here on your travels to China.
China's many beautiful natural sights and rich cultural areas are what I love most about visiting. Some of my personal favourites are Yunnan's Shangri-La, Xinjiang, Zhangjiajie, and the 5 Great Mountains.
