A Traveller's Guide to Singapore

Everything you need to know about travelling to Singapore.

Essential Facts

Currency

The official language of Singapore is the Singapore dollar (SGD). It’s better to exchange your money while in Singapore for a cheaper rate than to exchange back home. Major credit cards are accepted in most restaurants, stores, and hotels, but it’s good to have some cash on hand.

Language

Malay is the national language and one of the official languages of Singapore. However, English has become the most commonly-used language among locals, so you’ll have no problem speaking with people when you visit.

Best Time to Go

December to June is considered the best time to visit Singapore, but if you are looking for optimal weather, June to September has some of the best temperatures. This is the dry season, so expect slightly less rainfall and more sunshine with temperatures averaging 25°C–32°C/77°F–90°F. However, no matter when you decide to travel, Singapore is a great year-round destination.

Climate

Due to its proximity to the equator, Singapore has a tropical climate. Most of the country experiences lots of rainfall year-round with high temperatures and high levels of humidity. On average, temperatures are between 25°C/77°F to 32°C/90°F and rarely fall below 23°C/73°F.

Ideal Traveller

Considered one of the wealthiest countries in Southeast Asia, foodies and culture lovers will enjoy exploring the nation’s diversity and expressive culture. There are culinary experiences at the many hawker centres (similar to food courts) as well as high-end restaurants. The city is great to explore on foot by taking a night stroll through the impressive Gardens by the Bay or Haw Par Villa.

Getting There From North America

Major Airports

The country’s main airport is Changi Airport (SIN), which is considered the best airport in the world. Split into three terminals that are connected by a free Skytrain service, most budget carriers like SilkAir, Jetstar Asia, AirAsia and Cebu Pacific make it easy and affordable to connect to other Asian countries.

Major Air Routes from the United States

In the United States, most major cities have direct flights to Changi Airport, including New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

Major Air Routes from Canada

In Canada, there are no direct flights to Singapore, with most routes connecting to an Asian hub through Vancouver or Toronto.

Essential Sights in Singapore

Singapore Chinatown

Singapore City

This island nation and city is located on the southern tip of Malaysia Peninsula in Southeast Asia. It’s a city that lets you experience the Crazy Rich Asians lifestyle, exploring popular sites like Marina Bay, or the spectacular Gardens by the Bay. Check out the amazing lights and excitement of the night market in Chinatown or explore some of Singapore’s cultural neighbourhoods like Kampong Glam or Little India.

Sentosa Island

Sentosa Island is a short ride from the main island of Singapore and the perfect place for a quick getaway. This sunny resort island is home to Universal Studios Singapore, Palawan Beach with its lush rainforests and food stalls, and Tanjong Beach. Travel high above the island to Tiger Sky Tower for some of the best panoramic views that stretch as far as the eye can see.

I'd say that there is no bad time to visit Singapore, you just need to be ready to spend since they are considered at their peak all-year-round. Best times to visit will depend on the purpose of the trip - if you're in for a festive feels, then traveling closer to Lunar New year, Singapore National Day, Christmas and New Year would be great. Though weather may be a challenge in between.

Singapore has become a Foodie Epicenter because of the great cuisine diversity that they have. They have almost everything when it comes to food - from local to Malay to Chinese to Indian. You can even find Michelin restaurants in Hawker centers - if the queue is long, the food is good!

a top event to experience is Lunar New Year where Chinatown would be filled with colorful decorations, lights and markets - if you're lucky, you'd be able to watch lion dances along the streets, malls, small shops and offices.

If you'd like to see how it's like living in a traditional "kampong" (village) away from Singapore, then you can take a bumboat ride to Pulau Ubin. Visitors usually go there for a day trip and cycle around. You'll see wooden houses, wild boars and the biodiverse Chek Jawa wetlands

Mary G. was an absolute pleasure to work with. I partner with Goway often for Europe and typically have my go to rep, so stepping outside of that for a New Zealand itinerary had me a little unsure at first. That hesitation quickly disappeared. Mary stepped in with confidence, handled all of my moving pieces with ease, and truly understood the level of detail I needed to take care of my clients. She delivered a beautifully curated itinerary that exceeded expectations, and most importantly, my clients had an incredible experience in New Zealand. I’m so grateful to have her as a resource and look forward to working together again.Nichole Pierce

Joanna was amazing!!! She was able to set up a ten day trip for me in Sydney in a matter of a couple of weeks. All accommodation and tours were amazing and the 24 hour help center was great and where able to call up the tour company and have them come and still pick be up when I had a mixup with the reservation. Would definitely recommend Goway to any friends and family and will definitely be using them again.Erica Wolff

I cannot sing Erin’s praises enough! She planned an action-packed two-week New Zealand itinerary that hit every single stop on our bucket list. Every experience was truly first-class and luxurious. While I found myself being price-conscious initially, once I saw the incredible quality of the experiences she curated, I knew it was going to be the trip of a lifetime. A huge thank you to Erin and Go Way Travel for making my 50th birthday so epic. We’ll definitely be reaching out for our next big adventure!Michelle

I booked this trip to Adelaide with Goway, after using them before when we explored the 'big' sites of Australia. This time, we went to Adelaide to go to three of the top wine growing areas for wine tastings. We were a small group of 4 people. It was made better as the vendor used Small Batch Wine Tours for all of our excursions. They were fantastic making us the only travelers on these tours. Matthew, the owner, even adjusted our wineries on the last day to go to different place. This place totally marked off everything we were looking for in wine. Ended up buying a couple of bottles. Between Goway setting it up and Small Batch Wine Tours running the actual tours we had a beautiful and seamless trip. not applicable

Land Package booked was for Bora Bora. The Goway Agent priced out 3 different resorts in the same area. Before making a final decision, she even obtained the menus at the Resort so the clients could decide if they wanted to purchase the 1/2 board meal package. With extreme patience, the agent obtained answers to all of our questions. It was so nice to have this package inclusive of all taxes and resort fees and to have a local agent meet the clients upon their arrival in PPT. EMD

I had an absolutely wonderful experience working with Shalini. From the very first conversation, she was warm, welcoming, and genuinely invested in helping me plan the perfect trip. she took the time to understand what I was looking for, offered thoughtful suggestions, and shared incredibly helpful insights that only someone with deep knowledge and passion for travel could provide. What really stood out was how easy she made everything feel. Every question I had—big or small—was answered with patience and clarity. her recommendations were spot‑on, and I never felt rushed or pressured. Instead, I felt supported, informed, and excited about my plans. If you’re looking for someone who is friendly, attentive, and truly committed to creating a great travel experience, I can’t recommend Shalini highly enough. She turned what could have been a stressful process into something enjoyable and inspiring.enzo r reda
