Overview

Take a trip to Copenhagen on your Denmark Vacation

Copenhagen, Denmark’s vibrant and lively capital is a fairly compact city allowing you to reach many of the major highlights on foot. It has a strong character which is reflected in its architecture, crisscrossing canals and harbour. The city is known for the excellent shopping, culture and nightlife it offers visitors on Copenhagen vacations.

An unusual part of Copenhagen is Freetown Christiania, a green and car-free district, originally taken over by hippies in 1971. It is now an alternative neighbourhood with its own laws and rules, a society within a society and features numerous workshops and art galleries.

Late May through early September, with June and early July being the sweet spot. Warm but comfortable temperatures, long daylight hours in June (sun sets around 10 PM) and lower chance of gray, drizzly weather compared to the rest of the year

Denmark is extremely bike friendly - and that affects how you get around. Bikes have the right of way in many places. Traffic rules are strict - jaywalking or ignoring bike lanes can get you in trouble or at least surprised by local reactions

Things to do

Perhaps the best-known landmark is the iconic Little Mermaid, a bronze and granite statue displayed in the middle of the harbour. Also special is the Stroget, one of Europe’s longest pedestrian streets with its many shops, stores, restaurants and cafes. Tivoli Gardens is a very popular amusement park with many attractions for all ages. One can enjoy concerts and also dine here in the numerous restaurants. Nyhavn is one of Copenhagen’s major canals with its beautiful old houses but is best known for its many quayside open-air restaurants and bars, very popular with locals and visitors alike on Copenhagen vacations.
