Overview

Take a trip to Berlin Wall Memorial on your Germany Vacation

The Berlin Wall Memorial leads you through the area where the Berlin Wall stood and provides insights into the city's history as well as stories of families separated by the wall. It is located on Bernauer Strasse, which was split between the Soviet-controlled and French-controlled sectors when Berlin was divided following World War II.

The site has remnants of the Berlin Wall, which you can see and touch. At the learning stations, you will learn how tunnels were dug underneath the wall from East Berlin in an attempt to escape to the other side. The Window of Remembrance is a part of the memorial that pays tribute to people who died while daring to cross the wall. The Berlin Wall Documentation Center has multiple levels, one of which has a museum explaining life in East Berlin when the city was divided. On the viewing platform at the top of the centre, you can see the remains of the wall extending down Bernauer Strasse. As the site involves walking, wear comfortable shoes. Arrive early in the day to avoid large crowds.

Globetrotters need to get a picture at Neuschwanstein Castle, the fairytale-like castle in Bavaria. It's a highly recognizable and picturesque location that consistently draws visitors for its stunning architecture and scenic surroundings. I have visited this place several times and it's a knock-out setting for photography!

Germany has a highly efficient and well-integrated public transportation system that is good for both local and long-distance travel options. This includes buses, trams, subways (U-Bahn), suburban trains (S-Bahn), and high-speed trains (ICE, IC), among others. Public transport is generally reliable, comfortable, and relatively affordable, making it a popular choice for both residents and tourists.
