Families seeking a harmonious blend of culture, adventure and relaxation will find an abundance of options in Italy. The magic of the country lies not only in its awe-inspiring scenery but also in the welcoming spirit of its people, making it a top choice for family-friendly tours.

The Eternal Charm of Rome

Rome, the Eternal City, captures the heart of every visitor, offering rich historical narratives interwoven into its very streets. Imagine exploring the world-famous Colosseum as your children reenact gladiator battles, or tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain, thus ensuring your family’s return to this magical place. Stroll through the expansive Vatican Museums, where masterpieces by great artists ignite wonder and delight.

Tuscany: Where Time Stands Still

This region’s rolling vineyards and medieval towns offer an intoxicating escape that is both educational and indulgent. In Pisa, marvel at the famous Leaning Tower, or enjoy a leisurely bike ride through the picturesque streets of Lucca. Families can also take cooking classes to learn the art of Italian cuisine, perfect for introducing young ones to the joys of cooking.

Venice: A Floating Wonderland

With its intricate network of canals, Venice is one of Italy’s most popular cities, giving off a fairy tale vibe especially resonant with children. Here, every gondola ride becomes an exciting adventure, and winding alleyways encourage spontaneous exploration. Families can visit the enchanting Piazza San Marco to uncover the history behind its iconic clock tower and basilica. The city’s car-free environment allows for safe wandering, making it perfect for family holidays..

The Vibrant South: Amalfi Coast and Beyond

Venture south to experience the unparalleled beauty of the Amalfi Coast, where dramatic cliffs and sparkling azure waters comprise stunning panoramas. The charming town of Positano beckons with its vibrant colours, while Sorrento offers tantalizing tastes of Italy’s famed limoncello. The nearby ancient city of Pompeii presents an extraordinary opportunity for families to step back in time, walking streets that provide tangible insights into Roman daily life.

Captivating Islands: Sardinia and Sicily

If your vision of the best family vacations to Italy includes a touch of the exotic, the islands of Sardinia and Sicily provide just that. Sardinia boasts some of Europe’s most pristine beaches, where families can unwind and enjoy sun-soaked days. Meanwhile, Sicily’s cultural treasures, such as the Valley of the Temples and Mount Etna, blend natural beauty with profound historical significance, enriching any family visit with tales of ancient myth and natural wonders.

Practical Tips for a Family-Friendly Italian Journey

  • Embrace Italy’s Contrasts: Italians love children and welcome them in restaurants, but also be prepared for the realities of Italian culture, like later dinner times and the lack of widespread kids’ menus.
  • Simplify Navigation: Pack light and consider a comfortable carrier or lightweight stroller for traversing cobblestoned streets. Have snacks, toys and games on hand to pass the time in long lines or on lengthy bus and train trips.
  • Choose Destinations Accordingly: Visit family-friendly locations such as Tuscany, Cinque Terre, the Italian Lakes or Southern Italy, known for child-friendly cultures and fun activities like hiking, swimming and exploring ancient ruins. Balance sightseeing with relaxation and downtime to prevent burnout. Book tickets in advance if possible or make use of local experts.

Italy vacation packages cater to every desire, ensuring unique itineraries that enhance a family’s collective sense of adventure and discovery. As you step into the Italian lifestyle, you’ll likely discover that the most rewarding aspect of the journey lies in sharing diverse experiences with loved ones while immersing in a culture that values family above all.

Italy is full of hidden culinary gems, but one place that really stands out is Trattoria di Via Serra in Bologna. It’s beloved by locals for its authentic Emilian dishes like handmade tortellini in brodo and rich tagliatelle al ragù

One unforgettable tradition travelers should try to experience is a sagra—a local food festival that celebrates a specific dish, ingredient, or harvest. These are often held in small towns, especially in the summer and fall, and they offer an amazing window into real Italian life

It is with the utmost pleasure and heartfelt appreciation that I share my exceptional experience working with Taha Colombowala, Goway's distinguished Groups Specialist. Our journey together began in October 2023, when Taha took the helm in orchestrating what was to be a remarkable group trip to Ghana. When unforeseen circumstances necessitated a change in plans, Taha demonstrated his extraordinary expertise by recommending Morocco as an alternative destination — a suggestion that proved to be nothing short of absolutely brilliant! From the very first interaction to the final farewell, Taha has been a consummate professional in every sense of the word. His lightning-fast response times, encyclopedic knowledge of destinations, and remarkable ability to pivot seamlessly under pressure are truly second to none. What sets Taha apart, however, is not only his professional acumen but also his warm, patient, and genuinely enthusiastic attitude toward accommodating the unique needs and personalities of every member of our group. Taha Colombowala is, without question, a shining star within the Goway family, and an extraordinary ambassador for everything the brand represents. I cannot recommend him highly enough — he has exceeded every expectation and then some. Working with Taha has been an absolute privilege, and I look forward to many more incredible adventures ahead!DESIREE DUCKETT

Everything was expertly planned, from the drivers to the hotels to the tours to the flights. We particularly enjoyed Hobart and the animal sanctuary, Adelaide and the trip to Kangaroo Island, Melbourne and the evening tour with dinner and drinks, and Sydney with the private boat cruise of the Harbour. We will definitely use Goway again.SARA Wiebe

There were 4 travelers on this trip. All of us were in our late 70's. We started planning this trip 6 months prior to our travel date and had a lot of questions regarding this trip. Our Goway Travel Specialist, Karen Larrota, always answered our questions in a timely and complete manner. We traveled to Quito, Ecuador, the Galapagos, The Sacred Valley in Peru, Machu Picchu, and Cusco in Peru. Not only were the destinations and accommodations excellent, but every tour guide and driver were beyond excellent. The entire trip went smoothly every step of the way, which was amazing given the fact that there were numerous flights and hotels included in our package. We found out that the tour company that Goway used, Condor Travel, checked on us with our guide to make sure we were doing OK which we thought was very nice but also amusing as we are fairly fit older adults. Would also like to mention that we did a cruise thru the Galapagos on the Galapagos Legend which was arranged thru Go Galapagos - Kleintouurs. This portion of our tour was also excellent as were the wildlife guides and staff. We continue to discuss how wonderful this trip was with our family and friends and how wonderful this experience was. Would definately use Goway for our travel needs in the future.Dianne

My daughter and I had a wonderful 2 weeks in New Zealand! The country is so beautiful and the people so friendly. Our destination specialist did a great job with planning and organizing the itinerary, choosing our hotels, and organizing transportation. The hotels were absolutely beautiful and we had great views. We felt right at home and found all of the staff to be friendly and accommodating. There were no issues with our itinerary and our excursions we were always on the list. Our transportation was always ready and waiting for us. We want to thank Goway Travel for their hard work and patience with us in planning this trip. Any changes that needed to be made were communicated timely. We also want to thank you for the beautiful weather during the entire 2 weeks it was perfect every day 😀. It was a memorable trip that we will never forget and we will think of Goway when we plan our next adventure. Because it was not just a vacation; it was an adventure!Connie Wenhardt

Brigitta Fuller is Amazing! She was my group coordinator. She understood the assignment and all the nuances I was trying to achieve. The itinerary she curated was fantastic. If you want someone who truly cares about her group and what they are trying to achieve. I will always reach out to Brigitta first for Europe groups. Kathryn Walker
