The island of Raiatea is the second largest in Tahiti. The name means “Big Sky”. It is considered the most sacred island in the South Pacific because of its mystical and mysterious vibes as well as being the cultural heart of Tahiti. It offers fascinating history and legends together with its significant archaeological sites on a Tahiti vacation.
The locals here live a more traditional and relaxed lifestyle than the other islands. Raiatea is filled with green-carpeted mountains including the renowned Mt. Temehami. There are no exceptional beaches but the amazing scenery of greenery and jungles make up for this on a Tahiti vacation.
