What language is spoken in Oman?

The official language of Oman is Arabic.

Is English spoken throughout Oman?

Many residents speak English in major cities throughout the country. However, do not assume everyone will be able to converse in the language. 

What currency is used in Oman?

The currency used throughout the country is the Omani rial (OMR). Mastercard and Visa are widely accepted across the country and ATMs are incredibly common. 

Do I need a visa and passport to travel to Oman? 

A visa is required when travelling to Oman from the United States and Canada. Our travel partner in Muscat can assist you with this or feel free to secure a visa through the e-visa program via the Royal Oman Police portal. Perhaps the simplest way is to process your visa on arrival into Muscat. A valid passport is mandatory. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry to Oman. 

When is the best time to travel to Oman?

The weather is more comfortable between the months of October and March, making it the perfect time to travel to Oman. 

Is there transportation within Oman?

There is very little public transportation within Oman and the most common way of getting around the country is by car or medium-to-large tourism buses used for small groups or private touring.

Is Oman a family-friendly destination?

Oman is an incredibly safe and sunny vacation destination making it a perfect family trip. It is welcoming to families but travel is easiest when you are part of a group.

How welcoming is Oman to LGBTQ travellers?

Homosexual acts are illegal in Oman and Sharia Law applies throughout the country. Tourists and business visitors alike should maintain an understanding of the cultural sensitivity concerning this issue. Regardless of orientation, discretion should be practised in sites of antiquity as well as during day-to-day touring, but Oman welcomes all to its beautiful country.

What if any vaccinations are required or suggested for travel to Oman?

There are no compulsory vaccinations required for Oman, however, we recommend you consult with your local travel clinic for the most up-to-date recommendations, particularly in regard to malaria prophylactics. Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required if you are coming from or have transited through an airport of a country where yellow fever occurs.
