Classic Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Penang & More

Duration
10 Days
Prices From:
US$ 2,489

FIRST-CLASS | PRIVATE-GUIDED: From colonial settlements to the Cameron Highlands, Malaysia invites you to experience its diversity.

This 10 day trip from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi takes you from modern Malaysia, deep into its colonial past, then into the highlands to experience the wilderness.

The capital, Kuala Lumpur has been somewhat overshadowed, literally and figuratively by the Petronas Twin Towers – still the city’s most recognizable feature and still the world’s tallest twin buildings. You’ll stop here on a city tour that also includes the National Museum and the photogenic Suldan Abdul Samad Building.

A taste of colonial Malaysia awaits you at UNESCO World Heritage listed Malacca. The Portuguese, Dutch, French and British all controlled the town at one point or more in its history. You’ll see their influences at sights such as St Peter’s Church, and the Portuguese Settlement. You’ll also have some time in picturesque Red Square, surrounded by Holland’s contributions to Malacca’s historical mosaic.

The unique ecosystem of the Cameron Highlands is home to hundreds of different floral species, vast tea plantations and sights such as the Batu Caves, the centre of Hindu Thaipusam celebrations in Malaysia. You’ll have a chance to trek through the rainforest and visit the Semai, an indigenous people known for their rejection of violence.

The island of Penang may showcase Malaysia at its most colourful. Enjoy the views along Batu Ferringhi Road, exploring a fishing village. Steel your nerves for a visit to the Snake Temple, built in memory of Chinese monk Chor Soo Kong, a healer who according to legend gave shelter to the snakes of the jungle. The temple continues this tradition today, though all its residents have been safely de-venomed.

Your final destination is Langkawi, an archipelago of 99 beautiful islands. Stop in at Underwater World aquarium, Mahsuri Memorial and a traditional Gamat (sea cucumber) processing factory before you depart.
