Overview

Take a trip to Cameron Highlands on your Malaysia Vacation

As a destination for Malaysia vacations, the Cameron Highlands, situated in the centre of Peninsular Malaysia, is a series of hill stations at altitudes ranging from 1500 to 1800m (4920 to 5904ft).

Located 200kms north of Kuala Lumpur, the Cameron Highlands covers a span of 712 sq. km and features Malaysia’s highest point above sea level (5000ft), accessible by road.

The Cameron Highlands is named after William Cameron, a British surveyor, who, in 1885 was commissioned by the colonial government of the time to map out the. Initially planned as a development for a sanatorium, health spa, and farmland, it was finally developed as a hill station forty years later by Sir George Maxwell, as a development committee was formed in 1925, and road construction began from Tapah to the Highlands.

Given its fertile soil and cool climate, both British and locals settled on the slopes of the mountains, as the road construction was completed in 1931. They were soon joined by tea planters and vegetable growers. By the mid-1930s, the Cameron Highlands featured a nine-hole golf course, several cottages, three inns, a police post, two boarding schools, a dairy, nurseries, vegetable farms, tea estates, a Government Rest House and an Experimental Agricultural Station.

Today, attractions on a Malaysia tour in the Cameron Highlands include jungle walks, waterfalls, tours of tea plantations, beautiful gardens, and plenty of wildflowers. Featuring a glimmer of its colonial heritage, the Cameron Highlands is an ideal spot for rest and relaxation.

Globetrotters should try to experience The Gorilla Naming Ceremony : Culturally, the naming of an infant is a big affair, and Rwanda has adopted the same cultural event with the New-born Mountain Gorillas, as way to highlight the need to protect these gentle giants that were on the verge of being hunted to extinction.
