Tuscany Area MapTuscany is an Italian Province which offers on Italy vacatons attractions that include mountainous landscapes, interesting medieval hill towns and a coastline with magnificent and dramatic scenery for your Italy vacation. Tuscany is special enough to warrant having 7 UNESCO World Heritage sites. The heart and soul of Tuscany is the city of Florence, known as the Cradle of the Renaissance with its riches to be found in its art galleries and museums. The city itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Duomo, Florence’s superb cathedral is an amazing structure in itself.  The world-renowned Uffizi Gallery has a collection of mainly priceless Renaissance paintings as does the Pitti Palace. The Galleria dell'Accademia is home to Michelangelo’s iconic Statue of David. Take a stroll over the usually crowded Ponte Vecchio stopping in the middle and taking in the views of both banks of the Arno River and then exploring the narrow streets on the other bank.

Siena to the south of Florence, is one of the most beautiful and charming cities in Italy. It is a medieval city which has preserved its heritageYou can wander through the old narrow streets and feel you have truly stepped back in time.  The centre of Siena is the Piazza del Campo, once a Roman forum with a ring of medieval style buildings and many cafes around the perimeter. An important Siena landmark is the cathedral in the nearby Piazza del Duomo constructed in 1215, a simply magnificent structure. If you happen to be in Siena in either July or August, your visit may coincide with Il Palio. This is a very special pageant which includes a horse race around the Piazza del Campo, a competition between Siena neighbourhoods and which should not be missed on an Italy vacation package.

Pisa is famous for its Leaning Tower, a sight to behold. In the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles) is also Pisa Cathedral one of the most ornate and impressive cathedrals in the country. One more place to check out is the attractive Piazza del Cavalieri (Knights Square) which was the political centre of the city in medieval times.

LuccaBeautiful Lucca has a city wall which is in excellent shape considering its age. You can walk on the promenade on top of the wall.  Then there is the Roman amphitheatre in the Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, the Lucca Cathedral with its marvellous Romanesque façade and the Palazzo Pfanner, a beautiful 17th Century palace.

San Gimignano is a pretty medieval walled town, famous for its 14 beautiful towers, in the Piazza del Duomo, which, as you approach the town rise up like a medieval skyline. The San Gimignano 1300 Museum is where you can learn about the architecture, social life and history of Tuscany in the Middle Ages while on an Italy vacation.

Cinque TerreTuscany’s coastline on the Mediterranean Sea is where you will find the dramatic scenery in the Cinque Terre region with its small towns which cling to the cliff face. The main resort is Viareggio with a sandy beach stretching for miles.

Tuscany is one of the most famous wine regions in Europe. Its vineyards produce an array of internationally recognized wines. Well-known brands found here include Chianti, Montepulciano and Bruno di Montalcino.

There are a number of other fascinating and small hill towns that exist in Tuscany almost too numerous to mention. If you do spend time in this enchanting province on Italy vacations, you can easily discover them for yourself.
