Best Time to Visit

Experience Malaysia's diverse adventures in every captivating season.

This enchanting Southeast Asian nation welcomes globetrotters with open arms all year round. The weather, though, can be a bit of a puzzle, with different landmasses and regions experiencing different climate patterns. So, when is the best time to experience Malaysia's charm? Well, it all depends on what kind of adventure you're craving.

Malaysia's tropical climate means that you can visit anytime. Even during the rainy season, the showers tend to be short, and the landscapes come alive in lush, brilliant shades of green. The occasional downpour adds a touch of drama to the scenery, making it a photographer's dream. So, Malaysia isn't just a one-season wonder; it's a year-round adventure waiting to be explored on a vacation.

When is the ideal time to visit Malaysia?

If you're looking to soak up the sunshine and explore bustling cities like Kuala Lumpur, then the driest season is your golden ticket. From June to September, clear skies and pleasant temperatures make sightseeing a breeze. You can stroll through the historic streets, visit magnificent temples, and dine on delicious street food with the sun on your side.

If the beach is what your heart craves, the east coast islands are calling your name from May to September. During this period, the monsoon takes a break, granting you access to pristine beaches on the east coast like Perhentian and Tioman. It is also a popular season for those visiting dive resorts, as the visibility underwater improves. Avoid travelling to the east coast islands during their wet season from November to February, as many of the beach resorts close for a couple months and open again come March.

Malaysian Borneo, where the rainforest reigns supreme, beckons you to explore its lush beauty from April to September. The weather is relatively dry, making it the prime time to go trekking in the jungles of Sabah and Sarawak. The orangutans swing from tree to tree, and you can embark on wildlife adventures and experience indigenous cultures.

When is Malaysia's peak tourist season?

On the west coast peninsula, the hottest months of December to February sees the least amount of rain and the most travellers. It is a popular time for travellers to explore Kula Lumpur, wander historic George Town or seek out the beaches on Langkawi. Popular festivals celebrated including Chinese New Year occur in late January or early February and see an influx of travellers. The east coast islands are the busiest from May to September

Which is the most affordable time to visit Malaysia?

If you are seeking less crowds and affordable pricing on flights and accommodation, plan to visit the east coast of Malaysia, including Kula Lumpur, during the off season from March to June. You’ll encounter shorter lines at major attractions such as the Petronas Twin Towers, but keep in mind monsoon rains could affect some of your planned activities. Be prepared and pack lightweight clothing and a waterproof jacket.

December to February on the west coast, and Malaysia Borneo, including Sabah and Sarawak, you will see low crowds but possibly lots of rain, making travel on some dirt roads unpredictable.

How long should I plan to visit Malaysia?

Ideally plan to spend 12 days combining a visit between the dazzling lush city of Kuala Lumpur followed by days on famed Langkawi Island for its rainforests adventures and lazy beach days. Consider extending the trip by an additional 3 days to visit the Island of Penang, home to George Town, a colonial fusion of east and west, and the oldest city in Malaysia.

I can't tell you enough how much I love to work with Callie. She is a life saver and I love how attentive she is. Every time I give her an itinerary for a client- she really knocks it out of the park with the proposal. If there are any issues- she is on it right away. Her work ethic is outstanding.Michelle Labarca

We were trying to navigate Swiss Travel Center to book a 10 day train trip through Switzerland. It was exactly what we wanted but navigating their site was extremely difficult for us. Goway Travel picked up on our plight and put us in contact with Jacqueline Fagooli, one of their agents. From there on everything was so smooth. Their efficiency, communication, and thoroughness were beyond our expectations. The trip was fabulous and kudos to Jacqueline and Goway for their help in making it so.Carolyn McCormack

The destination specialist I've worked with (Kim Rawlings) has provided exceptional service. She is very knowledgeable of her region and everything they have to offer. She is very prompt in her communication and follow-up. She listens and is very attentive to my client's needs and wants. Kim's personality makes one feel like they've known each other for years. If GoWay had a customer service model, Kim is it.T. Jackson, Tribe Trek Travel

I just returned from escorting 34 people to China with four stops. We had hotels, local guides and extensive daily sightseeing. We had flights and we had high speed rail. There were numerous components that could have gone wrong but did not. I would like to highly recommend local guide Yoyo in Shanghai as well as Kevin in Xian. Two of the best guides I have ever had anywhere in the world. Suzette Castro and her team at the Goway Group Department did an excellent job helping me put this together. I was demanding, they were totally cooperative. It went well. I will be back. Amy Fink, CTC at Blue Ribbon Travel ArrangementsAmy in San Bruno, CA
