Overview

Take a Trip to Abel Tasman National Park on your New Zealand Vacation

The region of Nelson Abel Tasman, the sunshine, creative arts and craft brewing capital of New Zealand, has many natural attractions and is perfect for the active adventurer on a New Zealand vacation.

The Abel Tasman National Park is New Zealand’s only coastal national park. The Abel Tasman Coast Track, 53 kilometres/33 miles long, travels through lush native bush, over limestone cliffs and by golden sandy beaches. There are no roads making it a true nature expedition. In Kahurangi National Park, one can also hike the Heaphy Track which is 82 kilometres/50 miles in length and covers craggy ranges, alpine meadows, tropical valleys and a beautiful rugged coastline.

Nelson, situated at the top of the South Island, is the gateway to the region and is surrounded on three sides by Tasman Bay. It is known as the sunshine capital because of its very pleasant climate. The city is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, lush green forests, rolling vineyards and golden beaches. The sea here is a beautiful turquoise colour. One other claim to fame is its location as it is allegedly situated in the heart of New Zealand.

Another attraction of the region is the wine-growing areas. Due to Nelson’s proximity to the local vineyards, it offers excellent gourmet dining on New Zealand tours.

The food in New Zealand is incredible, and New Zealanders are rightly proud of their paddock to plate cuisine. Almost everything is sustainably grown and processed, from lamb and seafood to vegetables and fruit.
