Overview
Take a Trip to Milford Sound on your New Zealand Vacation
Milford Sound is located on the west coast of the South Island. It is a globally renowned natural marvel boasting towering peaks, cascading waterfalls, and incredible wildlife. This natural wonderland is also a haven for wildlife, with penguins, fur seals, and dolphins calling it home.
Visitors can experience the underwater world at the Milford Discovery Centre, where you can see the rare black coral and marine creatures. Also, boat tours are a favourite way to discover the beauty of the fjord. For centuries, the Māori people have frequented this area for fishing, hunting, and collecting jade stones. Despite its beauty, Europeans only stumbled upon it in the 1800s. Legend has it that its entrance was so hidden that even the famous explorer Captain Cook missed it twice.
